OBJECTIVE NO. 1
OBJECTIVE NO. 2
OBJECTIVE NO. 3
To identify the meaning and the process of classical
conditioning.
To describe the importance of classical conditioning in a
classroom setting.
To apply classical conditioning in your future discussions.

WHAT IS IT?
the learning process consisted of the formulation of
associations between stimuli and reflexive responses.
(Brown, 1941. p.80)
a conditioning in which the conditioned stimulus (such as
the sound of a bell) is paired with and precedes the
unconditioned stimulus (such as the sight of food) until
the conditioned stimulus alone is sufficient to elicit the
response. e.g. salivation in a dog
(Merriam-Webster, n.d.)

UNCONDITIONED STIMULUS
Example: smell, taste, sight of food
a stimulus that unconditionally (naturally and automatically) triggers a
response.

UNCONDITIONED RESPONSE
Example: salivation
the unlearned, natural response to the unconditioned stimulus.
CONDITIONED STIMULUS
Example: tone, bell ringing
an originally neutral stimulus that, after association with an unconditioned
stimulus (US), comes to trigger a conditioned response.
CONDITIONED RESPONSE
the learned response to a previously neutral (but now conditioned) stimulus.

BEFORE CONDITIONING
DURING CONDITIONING
AFTER CONDITIONING
Unconditioned Stimulus: Instructs the class to quiet down.
Unconditioned Response: quiets down.
Conditioned Stimulus: Claps 3 times.
Response: not quiet down
Conditioned Stimulus: Claps 3 times and instructs to quiet down.
Conditioned Response: quiets down
Conditioned Stimulus: Claps 3 times.
Conditioned Response: quiets down
Note: Some might still not quiet down. REPEAT until all subjects habituated the conditioned
response.
HOW WILL IT BE APPLIED IN
A CLASSROOM SETTING?
