Disaccharides are sugar which yield to 2 molecules of monosaccharides on hydrolysis . They are sweet in taste and soluble in water. Disaccharides are classified In two types 1.Nonreducing ( glycosyl -glycosides) Cl-Cl glycosidic linkage sucrose trehalose 2.Reducing ( Glycosyl ketoses). Reducing ( Glycosyl Ketoses ) , further classified in to two types 1.C1-C4 glycosidic linkage ( eg ) Lactose ,Maltose, Cellobiose 2.C1-C6 glycosidic linkage( eg ) gentibose, melibose Classification of disaccharides

Sucrose is commonly called cane sugar .It is the table sugar. Sucrose is disaccharide. It is common sugar and widely distributed in all photosynthetic plants. It is found in sugar cane ,beet, apple, pine apple, carrot and fruit sand ripe fruits. It is only used in food stuff used in the crystalline form Sucrose is transported from leaves to the other organs of the plants through their vascular system. sucrose

Lactose commoly called milk sugar .It is present in milk of mammals . Lactose is disaccharide purely of animal origin. It is present in the mammary gland .However it is also found in urine during pregnancy. It is soluble in water and less sweeter than sucrose. It is formed of the one molecule of β , D-glucose and another molecule of β ,1-4 gluco sidic linkage. Lactose
