Review: Unsaturated, Saturated or Supersaturated How to answer: DO THE TIKTOK DANCE MINI MISS U Unsaturated = “MINI” SATURATED = “MISS U” SUPERSATURATED = “HELLO MADLANG PEOPLE”

A teaspoon of sugar in one glass of water.

A teaspoon of sugar in one glass of water. UNSATURATED

2. You made a solution by adding 100 g of sugar to 100 ml of boiling water.

2. You made a solution by adding 100 g of sugar to 100 ml of boiling water. SUPERSATURATED

3. You added a sachet of juice powder to a cup of water. SATURATED

3. You added a sachet of juice powder to a cup of water.

4. The picture shows _______________

4. The picture shows _______________ SUPERSATURATED

5. The picture shows ____________

5. The picture shows ____________ SATURATED

In solution, it refers to the amount of solute dissolved in an amount of solvent. C N T R A O N C E I T O N

In solution, it refers to the amount of solute dissolved in an amount of solvent. CONCENTRATION

Means weak solution because it contains a little amount of solute compared to the amount of solvent. D L I T U E

Means weak solution because it contains a little amount of solute compared to the amount of solvent. DILUTE

Strong solution because it contains a large amount of solute dissolved in a solution. C N O N T E C R T A E D

Strong solution because it contains a large amount of solute dissolved in a solution. CONCENTRATED

It is the amount of matter an object contains. Kilogram, grams are some unit of this. M S A S

It is the amount of matter an object contains. Kilogram, grams are some unit of this. MASS

The amount of space that a substance or object occupies. Liters, milliliters are some of the units used to express this. V L M O U E

The amount of space that a substance or object occupies. Liters, milliliters are some of the units used to express this. VOLUME

How do we express concentration of solution?

QUALITATIVELY & QUANTITATIVELY

QUALITATIVELY Watch and observe the teacher while doing the activity. What can you say about the appearance of cup A? cup B? In which cup did I put less amount of solute? What can you say about its appearance? How about the most amount of solute? Describe its appearance. Which do you think is the diluted solution? How about the concentrated solution?

CONCENTRATION can be expressed QUALITATIVELY as: DILUTE SOLUTION There is a large amount of solute in a given amount of solvent. CONCENTRATED SOLUTION There is small amount of solute in a given amount of solvent.

CONCENTRATION can be expressed QUANTITATIVELY as: PERCENT BY MASS: PERCENT BY VOLUME: This is the convenient way to express concentration when the solute in a solution is a solid. The percentage of solute in a solution can more easily be determined by volume when the solute and solvent are both liquids.

CONCENTRATION can be expressed QUANTITATIVELY as: PERCENT BY MASS: PERCENT BY VOLUME: Percent by mass = mass of solute x 100 mass of solution Percent by volume = volume of solute x 100 volume of solution

Suppose that a solution was prepared by dissolving 25grams of sugar into 100grams of water.

Suppose that a solution was prepared by dissolving 25grams of sugar into 100grams of water. What is the solute in the problem? solvent? How much is the solute in the problem? How much is the solvent? What is the total amount of solution? Is the solute solid or liquid? What unit of measurement is used? How will you get the concentration of this solution?

Suppose that a solution was prepared by dissolving 25grams of sugar into 100grams of water. Solve by: 1. Find the given Mass of solute (amount of sugar) Mass of solution (amount of solute +amount of solvent) 2. Use the formula in getting percent by mass

Group presentation of answers…

What is the most useful solution that is effective in preventing communicable diseases like covid-19?

Why is alcohol important in our daily lives? Did you know that 70% isopropyl alcohol is a better disinfectant than 99% isopropyl alcohol when it comes to covid-19?

99% isopropyl is pure isopropanol whereas 70% isopropyl alcohol is 70% isopropanol diluted with 30% purified water.

99% isopropanol evaporates very quickly which does not allow it to penetrate cell walls and kill bacteria, 70% alcohol contains water which is essential in the denaturing process of proteins. This increases potency of its antimicrobial properties.

It is the ratio of the volume of the solute to the volume of solution multiplied by 100 percent. A. Percent by mass C. Molarity Percent by volume D. Mole fraction

2. An alcohol called brand Y is used as disinfectant in hospitals. Its total volume is 100 mL containing 70 mL ethyl alcohol. What is the percentage by volume of ethyl alcohol? A. 60 % B. 80 % C. 70 % D. 90 %

3. What do you call to the amount of solute dissolved in the given amount of solvent or solution? Concentration B. Percentage C. Concentrated D. Dilute

4. It is the type of solution that has a relatively small amount of dissolved solute. Concentration B. Percentage C. Concentrated D. Dilute

5. What is the percentage concentration of 20 grams sucrose in 80 grams water. A. 2.1% B. 2.0% C. 23% D. 20%
