We need to work with the client in the context of his/her family because casework is person oriented. √ In casework, the principal client is the individual but he must be seen and helprd within the context of the family of which he is apart.
THE PROBLEM A problem is a question or a situation that presents uncertainty, perplexity, or difficulty. A client may be unable to solve the problem due to any single or combination of the following: Tangible means and resources are not available. He may also be ignorant, or lacks of information about existing ways of meeting it. He maybe so drained or depleted of emotional and physicalenergy that he can hardly lift a finger to himself.
PROBLEM TYPOLOGY Problems of livelihood - inadequate means of livelihood. Difficulty of Role performance - inability to perform or difficulty experienced by a person in achieving a social role. Difficulty on interpersonal relationship - this problem has been placed immediately after difficulty of social performane because the latter may cause the former. Problem of Social transition- arises when there is an impending or abrupt change in the individual’s social field. Two types of social transition frequently dealth by social worker One concerns dilemmas about potential changes The other kind occurs after the change has occurred or been decided upon.
5 . Dissatisfaction in social relations- centered in one person rather than between two persons. 6. Problem with formal organization- occur in industrial settings. - the client is in conflict with a collection of individuals or with an organization. 7. Impact of natural calamities- victims need some basic commodities until the crisis is over. In many cases, there are bound to be more distressful experience, some trauma, or dislocation, some hightened emotions and feeling which produces stress the individual. 8. Reactive Emotional Distress- the client’s stress has to do more with his feelings rather than with the situation which may have given rise to them. 9. Problem of borderline pathology- client may exhibit signs of pathology but is in touch with reality in other areas of his functioning.
