CLIMATE CHANGE LIFE SCIENCES AND GEOGRAPHY
INTRODUCTION Climate is a long-term average weather conditions that occur in a particular region. This presentation will provide an overview of the key components of climate systems, their influences the implication of climate changes.
COMPONENTS OF CLIMATE Together they define overall climate of a particular area
. “Long ago, the Earth was not as it is today. Around eighteen thousand years ago, vast ice sheets stretched across much of the Northern Hemisphere. Over time, the climate has changed, guided by natural and human contribution to the atmosphere. The air has grown heavy with carbon dioxide, warming the Earth. Even now, we begin to feel the signs of this great change. And so we must ask: how shall humanity prepare for the shifting climate that lies ahead?”
EVIDENCE OF CLIMATE CHANGE
WHAT CAUSES CLIMATE CHANGE Morden human activities increase carbon dioxide level in the atmosphere, leading to global warming and climate disruptions.
‘What is global Warming?’
Gradual long-term i ncrease in earth’s average temperature . GLOBAL WARMING:
HOW DOES THIS CHANGES CLIMATE? CO2 released – from fossil fuels, cars, deforestation, and farming. CO2 trapped – remains in the atmosphere . Thicker atmosphere – traps more heat from the sun. Global warming results– Earth’s temperature rises as more CO2 is released. Climate disruption – causes extreme weather, droughts, floods, melting ice.
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Protecting our climate today is a key in securing a safety and sustainable future for generations
