Cloud computing is a computing paradigm where
dynamically scalable and often virtualized resources is
provided as a service over internet.

Since the revolution in computing world, experts have been working on the idea that information
processing can be done more efficiently on large farms of computing and storage systems
accessible via internet. This led them to a new concept in networking known as Cloud
Computing.
National Institute of Standard and Technology has defined Cloud Computing in the following
words:

“Cloud computing is a model for enabling convenient, on-demand
network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that
can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort
or service provider interaction.”

Cloud computing generally incorporates the combination of these elements:

 Cloud infrastructure as a service (IAAS)
 Cloud platform as a service (PAAS)
 Cloud software as a service (SAAS)

Cloud computingpromises to cut operational and capital costs and more importantly lets IT
departments focus on strategic projects instead of keeping the datacenter running. Cloud
computing is actually a construct that allows you to access applications that actually reside to a
location other than your computer or other internet connected device. The beauty of cloud
computing is that others host your application. This means that they are to handle all the costs of
servers, manage the software updates. So it becomes more convenient for a company to use its
applications anywhere by simply logging in and they get there information from the datacenter.
Such computing is now days being used in huge companies.

The information on the cloud is sometimes so valuable and includes a lot of information and
data. This makes the data available for every person. The cloud provides many options for the
everyday computer user as well as large and small businesses. It opens up the world of
computing to a broader range of uses and increases the ease of use by giving access through any
internet connection.

However, with this increased ease also come a few drawbacks. You have less control over who
has access to your information and little to no knowledge of where it is stored. You must also be
aware of the security risks of having data stored on the cloud. The cloud is a big target for
malicious individuals and may have disadvantages because it can be accessedthrough an
unsecured internet connection.

In the early 2011, Apple announced the iCloud, a network centric alternative for content
such as music, videos, movies, and personal information; this content was previously confined
to personal devices such as workstations, laptops, tablets, or smart phones.
In future, for the security purposes, the large enterprises can be building their own private clouds
and the cloud computing service providers will support information security as well. The
enterprises will become a part-time cloud computing vendors and you will use browsers as a
tool. In this regardthe latest effort has been made by Microsoft by launching a new Windows
version based upon cloud announced as Windows Azure.
