Now, let’s dive in! Pros and Cons of Co-Curricular Activities There are many pros or advantages that come with involvement in Co-Curricular activities. Some of the pros are: Improves academic performance by fueling learning, stimulating creative thought, and building passion in particular subjects Enhances social skills, which are important skills to build for college, career, and life in general Provides students with a chance to build friendships Helps to promote a positive outlook towards school and future study through an increase in a sense of community at school

Teaches time management and organizational skills Helps improve confidence and self-esteem through developing proficiency in a particular area Builds leadership and independence in students Can develop or help a student to find a new interest, talent, or career goal Provides stress relief and relaxation in students Can channel a student’s energy into a positive direction to keep them away from trouble after school, such as drug abuse or crime Provides a way to keep students supervised outside of school hours IMPORTANCE OF CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES Given all the advantages listed in the previous section, co-curricular activities can be very important in enhancing a student's academic development and performance. As long as a student's time is appropriately balanced and priorities are managed, co-curricular activities can help a student to achieve greater success in learning and academics while helping a student to build important life skills in leadership, organization, confidence, and socialization.

BALANCING ACTIVITIES As previously stated in the lesson, as long as a student's time is appropriately balanced, co-curricular activities can provide tremendous value to a student's academic and future success. In many cases though, students need assistance to learn how to balance their activities with their regular schooling. Teachers and administrators can help students balance co-curricular activities, and even extra-curricular activities, with regular schooling by using the following tactics: • Encourage students not to take on too much at once and to be selective in which activities to pick. • Encourage students to ask for help (from parents or teachers) if they need it. • Encourage students to create a schedule or organization system and stick to it (it minimizes pressure and time wasted to recall items or events). Set priorities, remembering to prioritize schoolwork first.

CO-CURRICULAR ADVANTAGES Co-curricular activities can provide students with a lot of interesting and important experiences outside the traditional classroom. There are many advantages to involvement in co-curricular activities, including: • Allowing students to explore strengths and talents outside of academics • Helping students develop stronger time-management and organizational skills • Teaching the importance of following through on commitments • Giving students the opportunity to build friendships and participate in group activities outside of the tight circle of the regular classroom • Helping to build confidence and self-esteem • Providing a way to keep students supervised outside of school hours • Channeling their energies in positive directions rather than toward drug abuse or crime • Building skills that are not necessarily taught in the classroom but are still important for the future • Looking good on a school transcript or college application

CO-CURRICULAR DISADVANTAGES While there are many advantages to student involvement in co-curricular activities, there are also some disadvantages. These disadvantages should be taken into consideration before encouraging student participation in co-curricular activities : Improvement of discipline Promoting Good Methods of Classroom Discipline Know school guidelines for discipline procedures. Be fair, positive and consistent. ... Provide a list of standards and consequences to parents and students. ... Keep your classroom orderly. ... Get to know your students. ... Let the students know you care. Are some tips to show you how to build self-discipline? Write out your goals. ... Practice prioritizing. ... Know your weaknesses. ... Get others to hold you accountable. ... Change your perspective. ... Be mindful of your urges. ... Forgive yourself and move forward. ... Have a backup plan

The significance of discipline in educational institutions is largely accepted at all levels. Funds, facilities, attractive and comfortable buildings, huge playgrounds, opportunities of recreation and entertainment, updated curriculum, well-trained teachers and availability of most modern equipment and sources are of no use until and unless these elements are connected through a balanced discipline. Education becomes useless and unattractive activity without discipline. It is the most effective rog source connecting the elements of education .
