INTRODUCTION The hydrophobicity properties of coconut oil, reduces the water penetration into the fibers which give beneficial effect by garnering a lubricating film on the hair . The coconut oil penetrates into the hair cortex and reduces the swelling of the hair fibers , a factor that can cause hair damaged. VCO also acts by filling the gap between the cuticle and prevents the penetration of aggressive substances such as surfactants into the hair follicles . All elements of coconut are useful , even the cellulosic biomass too as end product(S. Sreeremya,2018). As TTO and VCO were proven to have beneficial properties, thus incorporating these two oils in a formulation of shampoo will benefit in overcoming hair and scalp problems. Therefore, this research was designed to formulate and to study and assess the character(Balsam et al.,2008 )
A shampoo is a preparation of the surfactant (i.e. surface active material) in a suitable form – liquid, solid or powder – which when availed under the specified conditions will remove surface grease, dirt, and the skin debris from the hair shaft and scalp without adversely affecting the user. • Requirements of a Shampoo: 1. It should be effectively and completely remove dust or soil, excessive sebum or the other fatty substances and loose corneal cells from the hair. 2. It should produces a good amount of foam to satisfy the psychological requirements of the user( Sharma,1988). 3. It should be easily removed on mainly rinsing with water. 4. It should leave the hair non ‐dry, soft, lustrous with the good manageability and minimum fly away. 5. It should impart a pleasant fragnance to hair. 6. It should not cause any of the side ‐effects / irritation to skin or eye. 7. It should not make the hand rough by thorough assessment and evaluating the physicochemical properties of shampoo containing TTO and VCO(Butler,2000 ).
Anionic surfactants are mostly availed (good foaming properties). The hydrophilic portion carries a negative charge which results in the superior foaming, cleaning and end result attributes. ¾ Non‐ionic surfactants have very good cleansing properties but do not have sufficient foaming power. ¾ Cationic surfactants are toxic and are hence not availed. However, they may be availed in low concentration in hair conditioners. ¾ Ampholytics , being expensive, are generally not availed. However, they are mainly used as secondary surfactants and good hairconditioners ( Salador et al.,2006). ANIONIC SURFACTANTS Sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate , Lauric acid, the stearic acid and their salts, Sodium sec‐lauryl sulphate
ECTOPARASITES EFFECT ON VIRGIN COCONUT MILK-CASE STUDY The experimental dogs were observed one hour and 24 hours after the application of the VCO shampoo to determine the presence or the absence of ticks, fleas and lice. Posttreatment mite count was done every after 2 weeks of the application. The data gathered were tabulated using means and percentages( Kurata et al.,2005). The Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT) and the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) were availed to determine the level of significance and the differences among the five treatments respectively. The result of the study revealed that the VCO shampoo is highly effective against ticks, fleas, the lice and mites in dogs. Eighty percent (80%) VCO shampoo is the most effective concentration in eliminating and also reducing the mite count as early as 6th week of treatment and the other ectoparasites . However, Analysis of Variance revealed no significant differences among the various VCO shampoo concentrations in eliminating the ectoparasites . Virgin Coconut Oil shampoo is much more economical compared to the commercial dog shampoo against ectoparasites (ticks, fleas, lice and mites) in dogs( Krunali et al.,2013 ).
An unscented pet shampoo synthesized with moisturizing oils and coconut milk adds moisture and the deep conditioning for a soothing bath. • Imparts silkiness, fine softness and shine to coat • Coconut milk soothes dry skin and also adds body and shine • Unscented–making it perfect for the pets with extra sensitive skin as well as animals that cannot tolerate essential oils, like the Cats and Ferrets(Kumar et al.,2010). PATTERN OF USAGE Using a bar of soap to wash the dog is much easier and less messy than using liquid soap. Simply rub the bar on the pet’s wet coat to make a rich, creamy lather. Massage the shampoo deep into the pet’s coat and rinse thoroughly to prevent dried soapy hair. Rub your pet down with any clean, dry towel( Badi et al.,2014).
