Cohesive
devices
A speech or text necessarily
needs to be cohesive. It means
that each idea which is
presented in sentences is well
connected. The connectors
among each sentence are
usually known as cohesive
devices.
Cohesive devices are
sometimes called linking
words or transitional words.
They are words or phrases
that show the relationship
between ideas, sentences,
paragraphs or sections of a
text.
Different usage of
cohesive devices
1. Comparison – those are
cohesive devices that is
used to compare.
also, equally, similarly,
likewise, compared

2. Contrast – those are cohesive
devices that is used to point out
differences.
