2. Introduction Coir is commercial grade processed coconut husk that is used in the wide range of products. Coir is flexible natural yarn that is hauled out from mesocarp tissue or husk of coconut fruit Coir is in rich yellow color after the removal of coconut husk it is also referred as The Golden Fiber

3. Physical Properties The following are the physical properties of coir: Ultimate Length : 0.6mm Diameter/Width: 16micron Length: 6 to 8 inches Tenacity : 10g/tex Density : 1.4g/cc Swelling in Water: 5% in water

4. Chemical Property The following are Chemical Properties: Water soluble: 5.25% Prectin : 3.30% Hemi Cellulose : 0.25% Cellulose : 43.44% Lignin : 45.84% Ash : 2.22%

Coir Board The  Coir Board  is a statutory body established by the Government of India under the Coir Industry Act 1953  The head office of the Coir Board is in Kochi and the research and training office is in Kalavoor, Alappuzha The Coir Board has worked actively to support the International Year of Natural Fibers 2009.
