NATIONAL SYMBOLS By : Miss Andrea García Sánchez.
The patriotic symbols are those images , figures, elements , objects , among others , that have the mission to represent and also to differentiate one nation or country from others .
The Anthem
The National A nthem of Colombia is the patriotic musical composition that represents the country, The letter of the hymn is composed by a chorus and eleven stanzas , was written by President Rafael Nunez , originally as an ode to celebrate the independence of Cartagena. The music was composed by the Italian Oreste Síndici , presented to the public for the first time on November 11, 1887.
The Flag
The Flag of Colombia was created by Francisco de Miranda on March 12, 1806. Simón Bolívar, afterwards ordered that the flag of Miranda be adopted as the official of Colombia . Meaning of colors : Yellow : Represents the beloved peoples of the country. Blue: Represents the color of the seas that surround the country. Red: Represents the blood spilled from our ancestors in the conquest .
The Shield
In 1834 was established the shield that currently has Colombia, designed by Francisco de Paula Santander . • The first strip is blue , has gold leaves , a pomegranate and stems . At each end there is a cornucopia, the left filled with gold coins , the tropical fruits right . • The second strip includes a Phrygian cap supported by a spear , which is interpreted as the freedom of the country. • The last strip shows the isthmus of Panama ( which shows the importance it had for the republic ), the Caribbean Sea, the Pacific Ocean and two boats ( one in each sea).
The Orchid
The orchid of the variety Cattleya trianae is The National Flower of Colombia as established by the Colombian Academy of History in 1936 .
The Waxing Palm
The Congress of the Republic adopted the Quindío Wax Palm as a National Tree by Law 61 of 1985 .
The Condor of the Andes
The Condor is an emblem of freedom and sovereignty in the national coat of arms since 1834, officially recognized as The National Bird . This bird inhabits the Andean zone , is characterized by its size and size .
