Drugs used during conventional renal dialysis sessions Depend on Dialysis of Drugs, 2013 ( George R. Bailie & Nancy A. Mason, USA ) Alaa Fadhel Hassan (MSc. Pharmacology) Drug information centre Al-Mahmoudiya General Hospital
Entrance Patient of renal dialysis need special care. Drugs used for renal dialysis pt. may affect renal function (contraindication, caution or dosage adjustment) or may be affected by dialysis process itself. Conventional hemodialysis is defined as the use of a dialysis membrane whose in vitro coefficient of ultrafiltration ( KUf ) ≤8 mL/hour/mm Hg. (Data are placed in the conventional column if the literature does not specify the type of dialysis membrane employed).
Drugs which dialysis enhances plasma clearance by 30% or more. Supplemental dosing may be required or dosing after dialysis should be considered (Yes). Acetamionphen (paracetamol) (NS) Aminocaproic acid (NS) Aspirin (NS) Ceftazidime (NS) Clavulanic acid (NS) Acetylcysteine (7.5) Aminophylline (NS) Atenolol (NS) Cefuroxime (NS) Cotrimoxazole (NS) Acyclovir (NS) Amoxicillin (NS) Calcium carbonate Cephalexin (Keflex) (NS) Enalapril (NS) Allopurinol (NS) Ampicillin (NS) Captopril (NS) Chloram-phenicol (NS) Fluconazole (NS) Amikacin (NS) Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) (5.5) Cefpodoxime (NS) Chlorphenir -amine ( Histadine ) (NS) Folic acid (NS)
Drugs which no published data exist but physicochemical characteristics of the drug suggest that significant drug removal is unlikely during dialysis (U) Adenosine Clotrimazole Ethinyl estradiol Human growth hormon Iron sucrose ( Venofer ) Albumin Dextran Ferrous salt Hydroxocobalamin Lactulose Celecoxib Diclofenac ( Voltarin ) Gliclazide Insulin aspart Levodopa Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3) Diphen-hydramine ( Allermine ) Glimepiride Iron dextran ( Imferon ) Levofloxacin Clopidogrel (Plavix) Esomeprazole Glucagon Iron polymaltose complex Levonorgestrel
Drug which no data exist on their dialyzability with this type of dialysis (ND). Adrenaline (Epinephrine) Ephedrine Leucovorin Norethistrone Spiramycin 1- α Alfacalcidol (1-alfa) Ergometrine (Oxytocin) Mebeverine ( Duspatalin ) Norgestrel Sumatriptan Ammonium chloride Estrogens , conjugated Moerphine Ostriol Tamoxifen Betamethasone ( Betacort ) Factor VIII ( antihemophilic factor) Naloxone Omega 3 acid ethyl esters Phytonadione (Vitamin K) Carbidopa/ levodopa (ND/U) Fibrinogen Niacin (Vitamin B3) Orphinadrine Zinc Clarithromycin Hydroxy -chloroquine Norepinephrine Tranexamic acid Tocopherol (Vitamin E) Cyproheptadine ( Ketotifen Norethindrone Pyridoxine (Vitamin B6)
Drugs which no published data exist but physicochemical characteristics of the drug suggest that significant drug removal is likely during dialysis (L). Drugs which data of the type of membrane was not specified (NS).
