There are wide range of offences that are inflicted upon animals in India and around globe. All these offences can be broadly divided in to three types: Mischief Cruelty Bestiality Common o ffences against animals
Mischief includes killing, poisoning and maiming of animals . Poisoning is most common method of mischievous killing of animal. Most common poisoning agent used for the purpose is abrus precatorius. Dhatura leaves, yellow oleander and arsenic are other commonly used poison for mischievous killing of animals. Maiming refers to making an animal useless by act of violence. Most common methods practiced for maiming include fracturing bones, inflicting injury to the udder of lactating animal, tearing of vagina or rectum by sharp object and by cutting tendons of leg and neck. Cruelty against animal include beating, overloading, using sick animal for work, keeping animals hungry or in pathetic conditions, phooka , doomdeo etc. Cruelty against animal is punishable under prevention of cruelty to animals act of 1960. There is provision of fine of Rs 1000 and 02 years imprisonment or both for someone convicted with the practice of phooka and doomdeo . Cruelty against animals
Bestiality refers to carnal intercourse with animal against the order of nature. Bestiality is common in India due to prevailing superstition that intercourse with she donkey cures gonorrhea, mental illness and sexual desires of herdsman with lesser opportunity of sex owing to their loneliness and proximity with animals. Bestiality is punishable under section 377 of Indian Penal Code. Bestiality
Forensic evidences for bestiality M ostly offenders are caught red handed. Reported cases should be examined for Presence of semen/sperm in surrounding tissue of vagina of animals. Presence of gonorrheal organism in the vagina of she-donkey is sure sign of bestiality. Clothes of offenders will give the odour of faeces and urine of animals.
