Communication from a Christian Perspective Masterguide Leadership Study Colossians 4:6 By MG Kas u s u Stanley

Introduction • Communication = sharing ideas, feelings, and messages for understanding • God is the first communicator: - Creation (Genesis 1) - Jesus the Word (John 1:1) - Scripture & Prayer • Masterguides are called to reflect Christ in communication

Types of Communication 1. Verbal – spoken/written words 2. Non-verbal – gestures, expressions, tone 3. Visual – charts, images, media 4. Spiritual – prayer, Bible study, witnessing

Barriers to Communication • Physical: noise, distance • Language: jargon, slang • Psychological: anger, stress, prejudice • Cultural: traditions, customs • Spiritual: gossip, dishonesty, lack of love James 3:5–6 – The tongue… can set the whole course of one’s life on fire

Principles of Effective Communication • Clarity – be simple & clear (Habakkuk 2:2) • Truthfulness – speak honestly (Ephesians 4:25) • Love & Grace – kindness in speech (Colossians 4:6) • Active Listening – pay attention (James 1:19) • Feedback – check for understanding • Consistency – words match actions (Matthew 5:37) • Encouragement – build others up (Ephesians 4:29)

Jesus as a Model Communicator • Used parables – simple, clear • Listened to people’s needs • Spoke with love and compassion • Balanced truth and grace • Masterguides should follow His example in ministry

Communication in Masterguide Leadership • With Pathfinders – patient, encouraging • With fellow leaders – respectful teamwork • With church/community – witnessing in words and actions

Practical Activities • Role-play: poor vs. effective communication • Group Bible study: Proverbs 15:1 – 'A gentle answer turns away wrath…' • Personal reflection: What barrier do I struggle with? How can I improve?

Conclusion • Communication is vital for leadership and ministry • Barriers must be overcome with the Holy Spirit’s help • Effective communication reflects Christ’s character Memory Verse: Ephesians 4:15 – Speak the truth in love
