Positive Degree this offers no comparison. It just tells us about the existence of a quality. 1st Pattern: S + to be + as + adjective + as + 2nd Subject 2nd Pattern: S + Verb+ as + adverb + as + 2nd Subject + Verb

Example He is as smart as Newton He runs as fast as Randi does.

Comparative Degree Rules: S + to be + adjective + -er + than + 2nd subject e.g.: you are prettier than her. your score is better than mine. 2. S + verb + adverb + -er + than + 2n subject e.g. Joe runs faster than Nana does. This compares two things to show which has the lesser or greater degree of the quality.
