Known information to us- Maximum nominal size of coarse aggregate = inch Fineness modulus of Fine Aggregate = 2.5 (as Sylhet sand was used) Fineness modulus of Coarse Aggregate = 2.7 (as LC black stone was used & it is made of Limestone) Bulk density of coarse aggregate (LC Black Stone) = 1190-1493 kg/m 3 Taking the average of this range = = 1341.5 1342 kg/m 3 Specific gravity of cement = 3.15  

Target Strength for Mixing P roportion: Where, = Standard Deviation = Deign Compressive Strength = Average Compressive Strength  

Target Strength for Mixing P roportion:

Design Compressive Strength, = 4500 psi Average C ompressive Strength, =   Value of Slump = 2” (Assumed)

For compressive strength of 5700 psi (by interpolation)   Selection of Water – Cement Ratio:

Selection of Water Content: Water = 185 kg/m 3 or 315 lb /yd 3 Approximate entrapped air content = 2%

Calculation of Cement Content:  

Estimation of Coarse aggregate Proportion: For FM 2.5 by interpolation we get 0.65

Dry bulk volume of coarse aggregate is 0.65 per unit volume of aggregate. Quantity of Coarse aggregate = Volume fraction x Bulk density of Coarse aggregate  

 

Volume of Concrete = 1 m 3 Volume of Cement = Volume of Water = Volume of entrapped air = 0.02 m 3 (as it is 2% of 1m 3 ) Volume of Coarse aggregate =  

Volume of Concrete = 1 m 3 Volume of Fine aggregate = 1- (Volume of cement + volume of water + volume of entrapped air + volume of Coarse aggregate) 0.137+0.185+0.02+0.323) m 3 Mass / Amount of Fine Aggregate = Volume of Fine Aggregate x Specific gravity x Density of water  

Proportion based on dry aggregate condition: Cement: Sand: Aggregate =430:840:873
