We will study Conditional Statements

A conditional relates to a sentence that expresses a
condition. A conditional sentence is made up of two
clauses, the first of which is the conditional clause and
it starts withif,unless,when, etc. Most commonly, it
starts withifand we refer to it as theif-clause(orif
clauseor‘if’ clause). The if-clause contains a condition,
which if fulfilled another action will take place

The other clause of the conditional sentence
is themain clause(orresult clause). The
main clause shows the effect of the action
taken or if taken in the if-clause. The if-
clause usually comes before the main clause
although the reverse is possible

There are three main types of conditional.
They are commonly referred to as-
TheFirst Conditional
TheSecond Conditional
TheThird Conditional

Talks about the facts that are generally true/
Universal facts
( Agar ye hota, tou ye hota).
Structure of sentence will be
IF +SIMPLE PRESENT +SIMPLE PRESENT
Examples-

1)If you speak the truth ,everyone
appreciates you.
2)If you heat Ice ,it melts.
3)If you work 12 hours a day, you get tired.
4)If you cut your skin, it bleeds

All the conditions here are possible and not
Hypothetical.
( Agar ye ho/karein /karengay, tou wo hoga ,ho
sakta hai)
(Possible conditions and its likely results)
Structure of sentence –
IF +SIMPLE PRESENT +WILL
/MAY/MIGHT/COULD

If you study hard you will pass the exams.
If I Don’t come to party, he might not
support you.
If it rains today , he will surely cancel the
meeting.
(All these conditions are possible not
hypothetical)

In this all conditions are hypothetical but not
impossible to happen.
(Agar ye hota/ tou wo ho jaata/ ho paata)
Strucrure of sentence –
If + Simple past , would could

If I lived in Australia, I would visit Iskon
temple.
-If I won a lottery of Rs 20 Cr, I could buy a
beautiful bunglow.
-If you learned to speak English, you would
get this job.
-If I were the manager, I wouldn’t go to this
meeting.

When we talk of a hypothetical condition of
the past that is not at all possible now to
happen ( many times REGRET)
(Agar ye hua hota, tou wo ho chuka hota /kar
paata)
Structure of Sentence
If +Past perfect , would have/ could have

-EXAMPLES
-If he had studies well, he would have become
a doctor.
-If she had informed me earlier, I could have
helped her.
-If he had been the PM in 1950,He wouldn’t
have done this.
-If I had been the manager ,I wouldn’t have
allowed this mess.
