PERINTAL PERIOD
INTRODUCTION The perinatal period commences at 22 completed weeks (154 days) of gestation and ends seven completed days after birth. Perinatal and maternal health are closely linked. Perinatal mortality refers to the number of stillbirths and deaths in the first week of life (early neonatal mortality).
The antepartum period is literally equivalent to prenatal Practically, however, antepartum usually refers to the period between the 24th/26th week of gestational age until birth, for example in antepartum hemorrhage .
ICD-10-CM GUIDELINES Don’t use “P” codes or codes from Z38 on the maternal record nor use “o” codes on a new born record. For stillbirths use “P”95 If a condition presents at birth time and continues through out the life use “P” codes
On a new born record the delivering hospital reports the appropriate liveborn code from Z38 category. P codes followed by any relevant codes from other chapters that provides more details. Should the baby transferred from one hospital to another hospital,the receiving hospital should not assign
