Conflict Perspective
Conflict Perspective states that tensions and it arise when resources, status, and power are unevenly distributed between groups in society and that these conflicts become the engine for social change . society is made up of individuals competing for limited resources (e.g., money , leisure, sexual partners, etc.).
Conflict Perspective Originated from the efforts of Karl Marx. Sustained by Wright Mills in some years later. Societies have a tendency of being in conflict. Distribution of power and wealth remains unequal. Dominant groups employ power and authority in controlling most or all the other social structure aspects.
C. Wright Mills is a contemporary conflict theorist His works have made much impact in the modern society . He established that conflict is an indispensable societal aspect. Mills agrees with Marxist views.
Cultural capital involves “proper”: attitudes toward education, socially approved dress and manners, and knowledge about books, art, music, and other forms of high and popular culture. Middle and upper income parents provide their children with more cultural capital than do working class and poverty level parents. Because cultural capital is vital for acquiring an education, children with less cultural capital have fewer opportunities to succeed in school.
