Objectives The students will be able to define the term of curriculum construction. The students will be able to explain the principles of curriculum construction in science. The students will be able to discuss the bases of curriculum construction.
Objectives The students will be able to express their views on organization of science curriculum. The students will be able to identify the different types of science curriculum. The students will be able to differentiate between the topical method and spiral method of curriculum organization .
The curriculum word is derived from a Latin word ‘ Currere ’ which means to run or Race course . Curriculum includes all the learning experiences and activities in or out side the classroom. Curriculum
Curriculum is a tool in the hands of the artist (the teacher) to mold his material (the pupil) according to her ideals (aims and objective) in her studio (the school). { cunningham } Curriculum
Construction of Science Curriculum LUM CU RRI CU
A curriculum construction is a framework or plan of action for preparing a course of study or a set of students’ experiences. Curriculum construction is a deliberate process of devising, planning and selecting the element, techniques and procedures of curriculum. Meaning Of Curriculum Construction

Explain the principles of utility in Science curriculum? Question
Bases of C urriculum Construction
While constructing curriculum of science , we should include those activities which are based on philosophy. There are four main philosophy for curriculum construction :- 1. Realism 2. Idealism 3. Naturalism 4. Pragmatism Philosophical Bases
Realism : It includes those activities in curriculum through which knowledge can be obtained in real situation of life. Realistic curriculum is developed according to utility and needs. Philosophical Bases
Idealism : In idealism, the aim of education is to discover and develop each individual’s abilities and full moral excellence in order to better serve society. In idealistic curriculum humanistic subjected are emphasized. Philosophical Bases Care, Creativity Justice Openness
Naturalism : Free development of individuality of child is one of the major aim of education. Naturalists are supports of providing unlimited liberty to the child for expression. Philosophical Bases
Pragmatism : Pragmatic curriculum is based on utility of subjects. Construction of pragmatic curriculum is done according to interests of children and need of children. Philosophical Bases
Psychological basis emphasizes that the education of child should be based on psychological methods and principles. It emphasizes that the child is center of education. So education and curriculum is meant for the child. It focuses the all round development of children. Psychological Bases
According to this base, those subjects and activities are included in the curriculum, which provide assistance in developing appreciation of sociability. The children live in and for the society. They must be able to do well in society. So curriculum should be based on need of society Sociological Bases
According to this base, more importance is given to the scientific attitude in the science curriculum. T hose subjects and activities are included in the curriculum , which is develop the curiosity, heuristic ability, positive mind, observation power, etc. It promotes the scientific attitude towards life and society. scientific Bases
What are the main bases of curriculum construction? Question
Organization of Science Curriculum
Curriculum organization is the systematic arrangement of content and educational learning experiences for the attainment of educational objectives . The aspect of curriculum organization that describe the correlation or integration of content and educational activities. Meaning Of Curriculum organization
What do you mean by organization of science curriculum? Question
Types of science curriculum
In child-centered curriculum greater importance is given to the child in place of subject, experiences and activities. Kindergarten, Montessori, project and heuristic method etc. are the examples of child-centered curriculum. Child-Centered Curriculum
Such type of curriculum is organized according to the need, capacities, attitude, interest, hobbies and physical as well as mental level of the child. Child-Centered Curriculum
In experience centered curriculum, experiences are regarded as more important for the development of a child. This type of curriculum provide more opportunities to the learners and based on learning by doing. It develops a sense of self discipline and qualities of leadership. Experience Centered Curriculum
Subject centered curriculum gives more emphasis on subject matter in place of child. This is also called Book centered curriculum because it lays emphasis on bookish knowledge and learning. It can achieve an effective correlation among various subject. Subject-Centered Curriculum
Correlation curriculum signifies the intimate connection and correlation of various subject in the curriculum. Correlation curriculum emphasizes that instead of presenting knowledge in segments or parts. Correlated Curriculum
While organizing the content in science, we should arrange the topic in such a way that correlation of subject is possible like correlation with other subjects and with life. Correlated Curriculum Science
In the core curriculum, some subjects are grouped together as essential and compulsory subject and many other subject become optional. Study of the compulsory subjects, known as core curriculum which is necessary for all children. Core-Curriculum G. K.
It is child centered and gives practice and experiences to solve social problem. The core course is that part of the curriculum which takes as its major task the meeting of the common needs. Core-Curriculum Current Affairs
In which type of curriculum emphasis on the bookish knowledge? Question
While organizing the curriculum in any subject generally two methods are adopted. They are- Topical Method Spiral Method Methods of Organization of S cience Curriculum
Topical arrangement means that a topic should be finished entirely at one stage. Topical method requires that easy and difficult portions of a topic should be dealt with one stage only which is not psychological. It take topic as a unit. Topical Method
The main defect in the topical method is that it introduces the large mass of irrelevant material in curriculum. Topical methods demands that a topic once taken should be finished in its entirely, so that this is not more useful for lower classes. In this system the topic which is dealt with earlier receives, no attention later and so there is every likelihood of its being forgotten. Topical Method
The spiral method is a technique often used in teaching where first the basic facts of a subject are learned, without worrying about details. Then as learning progresses, more and more detail are introduced. It provides the opportunities for revision. Spiral Method
Spiral method of curriculum organization is based on the principle that a subject can not be given an exhaustive treatment at the first stage. This method demands t he division of the topic or the subject into a number of smaller independent units to be dealt with in order of difficulty suiting the mental capacities of the pupils To begin with, a simple presentation of the subject-matter is given, gaps are filled in the following year and more gaps a year or two later. Spiral Method
True and False : Q.1 In topical method the topic is dived into a number of independent units . Q.2 Spiral method of curriculum organization in science is more effective than topical method. Q.3 Topical methods demands that a topic should be finished entirely at one stage. Q.4 The present curriculum of science is topical and subject center.
