HOW TO COPE WITH STRESS
Talk to and stay connected to others It is important that one gets connected to others for support and help with trusted people like parents, relatives, teachers, guidance counselor,priest,family, doctor,close friends,and neighbors. being connected and talking with someone can help one make sense and meaning out of his or her experiences in life.
Get buzy and be active One can engage actively in various activities, projects, or hobbies, like walking in the park, playing one's favorite sports,playing a musical instrument,joining a church chorale, poetry writing, photography, joining a youth's organization, and advocacy work. Getting active in any of these can help manage feelings and have a better disposition in life.
Reach out and talk to others Talking about one's feelings or what one thinks about events or activities around him or her is effective. He or she may be guided by answering questions or completing a phrase to elicit responses. ex. how do you feel about the incident? Allowing a person to express his or her feelings and insights helps him or her cope stress.
Take care of yourself Pamper oneself with the right amount of sleep, regular exercise, and the right kind of diet. It may be difficult at the beginning, but with determination it will become a habit and a healthy lifestyle. ex. eat a well-balanced and healthy diet exercise regularly get at least 8-9 hous of sleep take a break if you feel stressed out
COPING WITH DEPRESSION Depression - is a common mental disorder that can affect anyone. it is characterized by severe sadness,low self-worth,difficulty in focusing,loss of appetite,and loss of interest. it can also lead to suicide in its most severe condition. Grief and depression - is a natural response to loss or death of loves one.
but death is not the only kind of loss that causes grief Teenagers can also experience depression through their family life, school performance,social status with peers of friends .
REACTION TO LOSS AND GRIEF Different stages of grief 1. Denial - is a normal reaction to a death or loss and never be interpreted as “not caring”. avoidance confusion fear blame numbness
2. Anger - in this stage of grief, the individual usually feels helpless and powerless. - he or she feels like being left alone because of the loss or death of a loved one. frustration anxiety irritation
3. Bargaining - in this stage of grief, the individual usually becomes obsessed with thoughts of what could have been done to prevent the loss. dialogue/ reaching out to others struggle to find meaning of the event 4. Depression- the invididual starts to realize the extent and effect of the loss. - common sign: insomia, poor appetite, crying spells,fatigue, and lack of interest and energy.
overwhelmed lack of energy helplessness 5. Acceptance- the individual begins to come to terms with all the emotions and feelings that he or she has experienced when the death occured. exploring options a new plan in life
