PROFILE Sarojini Naidu was born in February 1879 in Hyderabad. Her first collection of poems titled “Golden Threshold” was published in 1905.Her poems are in English, but have an Indian soul. The Indian Freedom struggle was the heart and soul of her work. After the independence she became the first governor of Utter Pradesh. She passed away in March 1949 .

POETIC DEVICES Personification – When the qualities of a person is assigned to something non- human. E.g.; The wind lies asleep in the arms of the dawn, like a child that has cried all night. In the line above, dawn has been personified as a mother. So the line above is a personification, metaphor, an image and a simile.

Simile : A direct comparison of two unlike things using “like” or “as.” Example: He’s as dumb as an ox. Example: Her eyes are like comets. Metaphor : A direct comparison between two unlike things, stating that one is the other or does the action of the other. Example: He’s a zero. Example: Her fingers danced across the keyboard
