Good afternoon and Welcome to Horticulture 8!!!

Let’s Review! Given shape / figure Width= 5m Length= 10m Guide Questions: 1 . What figure/shape do you see? 2 . What is total area of the figure/shape you have seen? 3. What are the expressions used in presenting the sides of the certain figure / shape? 4 .How did you obtained the area of the given figure/shape? Answer: 1. Rectangle 2. 50 3. Length and Width 4 . Obtained by multiplying the longer side to the shorter side   Answer: 1.) Rectangle 2.) 50   3.) Length and Width 4) Obtained by multiplying the longer side to the shorter side.

01 Answer: Meter (m) Let’s watch!

“Determine the correct method of calculation”

P resentation of the Lesson Objective : L earning O bjective : The learner performs basic calculations related to horticulture. Most Essential Learning Competency . L O 5.2 (TLE_AFHC7 /8MC-0f-5)

Activity INSTRUCTIONS You will be divided into three (3) groups. Choose a leader, secretary and every group will present in different ways of presentation . You will be given ten (10) minutes to do the task. Then be ready for the presentation.

This can be the part of the presentation where you share an interesting anecdote Scoring Rubric CRITERIA Accuracy(70%) Presentation(20%) Neatness(10%) Interpretation of Scores: 16-20 Excellent output 11-15 Very Good 6-10 Fair Output 5 and below- Poor Input SCORE 20 15 10 5

Group 5. What is the correct answer ? 1. What is the shape of your surface? 2.What are the given? 3. How did you calculate your area? 4. How did you determine that your work is calculated correctly? Answer: Square ANSWER: length = 20 cm , width = 20 cm ANSWER: Calculate the area using the standard formula for square : A = l x w or A = Side² ANSWER: Area of Square = 400 cm² Answer: Calculate using the given data and using the standard formula for the particular shape of the surface.

Group 1. What is the shape of your surface? Answer: Triangle 2. What are the given? Answer: base = 40 cm ; height = 50 cm 3. How did you calculate your area? Answer: Calculate the area using the standard formula for Triangle : A = 0.5 x b x h 4. How did you determine that your work is calculated correctly? Answer: Calculate using the given data and using the standard formula for the particular shape of the surface . 5. What is the correct answer? Answer: Area of triangle = 1000 cm²

Group 1. What is the shape of your surface? Answer: Rectangle 2. What are the given? Answer: length = 40 cm ; width = 2 0cm 3. How did you calculate your area? Answer: Calculate the area using the standard formula in Rectangle : A = l x w 4. How did you determine that your work is calculated correctly? Answer: Calculate using the given data and using the standard formula for the particular shape of the surface . 5. What is the correct answer? Answer: Area of rectangle= 800 cm² 03

Area (A) – refers to the size of the surface Discussion The most common surface areas : 1 .) TRIANGLE – the height (h) of a triangle is the distance from the top corner to the opposite side called base (b) . The height is always perpendicular to the base; in other words the height makes a right angle with the base. In order to determine the surface area of a triangle, a formula A (triangle) = 0.5 x base x height or A = 0.5 x b x h

Discussion The most common surface areas : 2.) SQUARE – The expression length (l) is commonly used instead of base and width (w) instead of height. In order to determine the surface area of a square , a formula A ( square) = length x height or A = l x w 3 .) RECTANGLE – The expression length (l) is commonly used instead of base and width (w) instead of height. In order to determine the surface area of a rectangle , a formula A (rectangle) = length x height or A = l x w

Discussion The most common surface areas : Area (A)– refers to the size of the surface or the space inside the shape   Square Meter (m²) – The basic unit of surface area in the metric system is the square meter (m²)

Discussion EXAMPLE format of determining the correct method of calculating surface area of a certain figure/shape :   Calculate the surface area of the Triangle :   First , identify the given Second , Use the standard formula of shape Given : base = 3cm Formula : A = 0.5 x b x h height = 2cm Lastly , Calculate and find the solution Solution : A = 0.5 x 3cm x 2cm A = 0.5 x 6cm² A = 3 cm²

Generalization To sum up with, what do you think is the first thing to consider in determining the correct method of calculation ?   2. How important is it to be able to determine the correct method of calculation? 3. So again how do you calculate a triangular surface? How about a rectangular surface? How about square?

Application DIRECTIONS: Using your ruler, and different figures prepared for you, determine the correct method of calculating the certain figures / shapes and solve for the different surface areas. Measure the given figures using the unit centimetre (cm) in your ruler.

Application How important is it to determine the correct calculation in horticulture?   Give other example of situation wherein calculating surface area is very important aside from calculating garden or farm surface areas

Just like in your Mathematics 8 in solving problems that involves right triangles, there are right triangles that are commonly used in constructing houses, buildings, malls and bridges. Thus in constructing important structures, we need to determine the correct method of calculation in order to achieve the accurate and best outcome and to have a quality project or output . Application

Evaluation Area Height Base Length Width A= 0.5 x b x h A = l x w   ASSESSMENT Test I. DIRECTION S : On your answer sheets, c hose your answer on the box provided: ___________________1.What term refers to the size of the surface. ___________________2.In a rectangle, this expression is commonly use as a term for the longer side of the figure/shape? ___________________3. In a triangle, this expression refers to the distance from the top corner to the opposite side called the base. ___________________4.This is the standard formula used in order to determine the surface area of a square ___________________5. In order to calculate the surface area of a triangle, we use the formula _____.

Evaluation Test II. Determine the correct method of calculating the surface area of the Triangle and provide the data for the correct standard formula and solve for the solution. Given : height =6cm F Formula : S Solution : base = 6cm

Enrichment: Direction s : In a ¼ sheet of pad paper , answer the following : 1.What is the standard formula in calculating the area of a circle? 2. What is the formula in calculating the area of a trapezoid and a rhombus ? Reference: Learner’s Material in Agricultural Crop Production, Grade 7and 8( K-12 Basic Education Program) pp. 62-63.
