Introduction Counselling_BPH-VI_Health education Communication 3 6/18/2020 The Concise Oxford Dictionary (9 th  Edition) gives definitions of counselling, “the process of assisting and guiding clients , especially by a trained person on a professional basis, to resolve personal , social, or psychological problems and difficulties . ” [3]

Counselling_BPH-VI_Health education Communication 4 6/18/2020 Counselling is a processes of encouraging and helping an individual in identifying his or her health problem , the causes of the problem in i dentifying the ways of its solution , and also encourages taking necessary action to solve it . [ 1 ] ( Pradhan HB. 2009) Counselling is a talking therapy that involves a trained therapist listening to you and helping you find ways to deal with emotional issues . [2]

There is adequate exchange of ideas, feelings and experiences between the counsellor and his client. Counselling plays an important role in dealing with chronic health problems which requires long-term treatment with necessary preventive and other control measures. [1] (Pradhan HB. 2009)

Expecting or encouraging a client to behave as the counsellor would behave if confronted with a similar problem in their own life. Getting emotionally involved with the client. Looking at a client’s problems from your own perspective , based on your own value system . [3]
