1970S):
THE INVENTION OF INTEGRATED
CIRCUITS (ICS) ALLOWED MULTIPLE
TRANSISTORS TO BE PLACED ON A
SINGLE SILICON CHIP, SHRINKING
CPU SIZE AND INCREASING POWER.
INTEL’S 4004 (1971) WAS THE FIRST
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE
MICROPROCESSOR, CAPABLE OF

MICROPROCESSORS (1970S–
1980S):
CPUS BEGAN BEING DESIGNED AS

INTEL’S 8086 (1978) AND THE IBM
PC REVOLUTIONIZED PERSONAL
COMPUTING WITH 16-BIT

ADVANCED CPUS OFFERING HIGH
CORE COUNTS (UP TO 64 CORES IN
HIGH-END CPUS), CLOCK SPEEDS
EXCEEDING 5 GHZ, AND FEATURES
LIKE AI PROCESSING AND NEURAL
ENGINES.
CPUS ARE NOW MORE SPECIALIZED,
WITH OPTIMIZATIONS FOR GAMING,
MACHINE LEARNING, AND DATA
PROCESSING.

QUANTUM PROCESSOR (2019):
THE CONCEPT OF QUANTUM COMPUTING WAS
FIRST PROPOSED IN THE 1980S BY PHYSICIST
RICHARD FEYNMAN, WHO SUGGESTED THAT
QUANTUM SYSTEMS COULD SIMULATE NATURE
MORE EFFICIENTLY THAN CLASSICAL COMPUTERS.
