Organisation The book is organised in 13 chapters . Negative aspect : THE BOOK DOES NOT HAVE UNIT DISTRIBUTION FOR THESE 13 CHAPTERS . IT IS NOT MENTIONED IN THE BOOK WHICH CHAPTER BELONGS TO WHICH BRANCH OF SCIENCE. THIS CREATES A CONFUSION IN MIND OF STUDENTS.

Content The textbook contain all the topics necessary for purpose POSITIVE ASPECTS : material from one part of book is cross referenced with other Historical development: chapter 1 “ how agriculture is born “ on page no 1 Chapter 3 : History of first oil well on page no 35 Latest advances: Chapter 6 “ Have you heard about test tube babies “ NEGATIVE ASPECT : sub headings is missing underneath the heading of Chapter

Presentation Overall presentation of the book is good . Number of pictures , illustrations and activities are given related to each and every topic in the chapter Positive points : The activities and sub topics are marked with numbers Inductive approach is used for e.g. Introduction of chapter 2 Interesting conversation of BOOJHO AND PAHELI is included Unfamiliar terms in bold and italic form

Accuracy The data given in book is accurate Content is simple and up to date Various new technologies and techniques are mentioned Achievements and discoveries of scientists Spellings, grammar used is perfectly fine

Adaptability Book is written in easy language and is adaptable by the all types of students It also contains some examples of rural as well as urban area For example in Chapter 1 st. Traditional as well as modern methods of agriculture is mentioned

Readability The sentences of the book is very short and easy vocabulary is used At last of chapters under heading of extended learning and activities proper references are given The data is also given in tabular form which make it to understand easily .

Teaching Aids Different teaching aids : In chapter 1 CROP PRODUCTION AND MANAGEMENT activity 1.2 to understand the topic of adding manure and fertilisers In chapter 2 :MICROORGANISMS: FRIEND OR FOE Diagram of nitrogen cycle ( page no 20 ) POSITIVE POINTS : Cautions are given for performing dangerous activities In chapter 5 picture of panchmari biosphere is given on page no 55

In chapter 12 Some natural phenomena Movement of earth’s plate are also shown through diagram NEGATIVE POINTS In chapter 6 REPRODUCTION IN ANIMALS Irrelevant story of dolly the clone is given which do not have any link within chapter ( page no 74). In chapter 11 Chemical effects of electric current So many difficult and risky activities are given which are not suitable for 8 th class students

Illustrations Illustrations are relevantly modern . For example In chapter 3 COAL AND PETROLEUM on page 36 uses of CNG pipelines exists in Vadodara Gujrat is given. Photographic production is large but not clear. Figures are related with textual material . For e.g. Chapter 5 Conservation of plants and animals on page 56 explains about flora and fauna with related pictures Content given with Illustrations is useful .

Evaluation on basis of Gender, Health And Environment

On the basis of gender In chapter 1 figure 1.1(a) 1.2 (a) , 1.4(a) shows men performing different cultures Activities On page no 4 and 11 mother of paheli and boojho is shown to do housework : Women can also do other work than household, there are lady farmers also picture of them should also be included In chapter 4 COMBUSTION AND FLAME figure 4.6 and 4.4 shows the picture of a fireman and a goldsmith : Women can also do the profession of fireman and goldsmith .

In chapter 5 Conservation of Plants and animals Professor Ahmed and guide madhavji both are male , there should be a woman in place of either professor and forest guide In chapter 6 Reproduction in Animals Positive point : The textbook is quite rational in explaining the topic of reproduction without any discrimination Negative point : Information about third gender is not included at all In chapter 7 : Reaching the age of adolescence : negative point Information about changes during adolescence for third gender is not included

IN CHAPTER 9 FRICTION Figure9.1,9.4,9.6,9.12,9.14 contains all the photos of male children In CHAPTER 10 SOUND ONLY FIGURE 10.6 Consist of a girl child IN CHAPTER 13 LIGHT On page 176 story of Hellen.A.keller is included which is a good point

In chapter 4 COMBUSTION AND FLAME ON PAGE 43 , 45 caution ⚠ is given with activities In chapter 7 REACHING THE AGE OF ADOLESCENCE POSITIVE POINT : information about personal hygiene and nutritional diet is given

CHAPTER 2 MICROORGANISMS: FRIEND OR FOE NEGATIVE POINT : while discussing about cleaning the environment how plastic waste effects our environment is not discussed CHAPTER 4 combustion and flame On page 46 students are being aware about campfires in forests during picnic or visits Chapter 5 CONSERVATIVE OF PLANTS AND ANIMALS NEGATIVE POINT on page 60 recycling of paper is discussed but on very next page half of page is wasted

Chapter 12 Some Natural phenomena Natural phenomena in our environment is discussed For example: 12.7 topic Earthquake it is mentioned how Earthquake actually comes figure12.12 Indian earth plates movement is shown Under the story of lightning the phenomena which happens in our environment is discussed
