What is Cultural Globalization?

The definition of cultural globalization is the process through which the values, ideas, and experiences of a specific culture are transmitted and disseminated across the world.

The process of cultural globalization has significant effects on international relations and interactions between different cultures in the same country.

Through cultural globalization, the world becomes more cosmopolitan, and cultures and societies begin to experience a broader and freer interchange of ideas and values. Some state that with the cultural globalization of major cultures, a main culture that dominates the entire world will be created.

This is the definition of ''global culture''. However, there are also significant negative effects on native cultures as a result of cultural globalization, which can often cause local cultures to be weakened. Additionally, cultural globalization can influence stereotypes and prejudicial beliefs against members of a particular culture.

Factors Causing Cultural Globalization

Tourism An increasing number of individuals are traveling to other countries. This has been made possible by air travel as well as the establishment of foreign embassies. Many foreign embassies created to foster positive international relations have added assistance of tourists and visitors from their home country as a result of the increase in tourism.

2. Social Media- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram , Snapchat, Viber etc. 3. Traditional Media Examples: television, radio, print such as newspapers and magazines, mail and outdoor messages.

4. News Media:  One of the most effective methods which governments can use to transmit their worldview onto the citizens of other nations is to use news and other media institutions to express this view. The most useful news media institutions are those that have local branches and use the native languages of the citizens of the host country. The messages that are expressed, however, more closely adhere to the desires of the home country than the host country.

5. E ducation:  Education about other cultures and their languages can cause shifts in cultural expression. For instance, the increased attention paid to English in Chinese college curricula since 1978 has induced a change in the thinking patterns of Chinese college students.

6. Face-to-face contact Entertainment:  Entertainment from foreign countries can cause some individuals to adopt cultural norms which are not those of their local culture. For example, the overwhelming popularity of American television shows and films in the Philippines has caused many young people to adopt English as a major language, forsaking their native language.

Cultural implications  refer to the effects that a policy, action, event, or movement have on a particular culture. Both external and internal events can alter, mute, or strengthen certain aspects of a culture, and this change can influence the effectiveness of cultural globalization.

Effects of C ultural G lobalization Foreign cultures can supersede local, traditional cultural norms, values, and practices. Great ideas can be transmitted from one culture to another, including new forms of thinking about economic or political questions. Scientific discoveries and theories can also be shared. The creation of  stereotypes , which are prejudicial beliefs, about members of a different culture.

When cultural globalization occurs between multiple cultures, and when they continually share aspects with each other,  homogeneity  can occur. This refers to a phenomenon in which multiple cultures begin to closely resemble one another. Cultural globalization can lead to homogeneity when aspects of one dominant culture begin to replace aspects of smaller cultures. Another situation that can lead to homogeneity through cultural globalization is when multiple cultures which are equally strong change aspects of their cultures to fit each other, resulting in them becoming extremely similar despite having different backgrounds.

New cuisines, clothing styles, lifestyles, and lifeways can be transferred to foreign places.
