Pio Valenzuela’s Controversial “Cry of Pugad Lawin ”

Dr. Pio Valenzuela born on July 11, 1896 He claimed to be the eyewitness of the event.

In his first version – August 26, 1896, The first cry was in Balintawak Later, with fading memory he wrote in his memoirs that the cry took place at Pugad Lawin on August 23, 1896.

August 22, 1896 There were 500 members of the Katipunan met in the house and yard of Apolonio Samson.

Aside from those persons mentioned, among those who were there were; Briccio Pantas Alejandro Santiago Ramon Bernardo Apolonio Samson and others

August 23, 1896 In the house and yard of Juan Ramos son of Melchora Aquino where 1,000 members of Katipunan met.

August 29, 1896 They were discussing whether or not the revolution against the Spanish government should be started.

After the meeting, many of those present tore their Cedulas and shouted “Long live the Philippines”
