What is Cyber Crime? Cyber Crime is a crime that involves a computer and a network. The computer may have been used in commission, or it maybe the target. Cyber Crime is a rising issue in today’s society and is extremely harmful for many reasons. Many countries have been facing these issues and the majority of the common people are still unaware of the consequences it can cause. For Eg. OTP Fraud, Eavesdropping, Phishing, Unethical Hacking, Blackmailing, etc.

Hacking A hacker is someone who finds weaknesses and exploits them to gain access on computers and devices. Hackers can be of two types:- Ethical Unethical Hacking is a serious issue as it is a major privacy breach. It can be also used to badly influence large masses of people by pretending to be someone famous or someone with power. It is also a threat to govt. institutions and MNCs as it can get access to confidential information.

Deceits and Payment Frauds Deceits and Payment Frauds have been terrorizing people for a long time. Deceits regarding bank/payment details and OTPs are infamous. There is a full blown market and industry running these frauds and the majority reside here in India(and that’s a fact!!!!) These criminals exploit the unawareness and lack of knowledge in terms of net banking, digital payments , etc. They prey on the vulnerability of primitive knowledge of people.

Prevention: What to do? Secure your computer and other devices. Don’t share your personal information with anyone(NO ONE!!!!!) Set strong passwords and Two-Factor Authentication. Avoid being scammed and beware. Secure your wireless networks. Avoid visiting and downloading files from shady websites. If in trouble, call the Cyber Crime Helpline Number (112)
