Germs Alive!

A Scout is…
— CLEAN —
As Scouts, we keep our minds and bodies
fit and clean. We also help keep our homes,
communities, and outdoor spaces clean.
We do these things out of respect for
others, the environment, and ourselves.

What do you know
about germs?

Let’s learn how germs spread

How far can the germs in a sneeze travel?

What are some of the ways you
can stop germs from spreading?

When should you wash
your hands?
Wash for at least 20 seconds —
sing the Happy Birthday song
twice, or say the cub scout oath.

Make your own mucus!
Container 1:
2 tablespoons Borax
2 cups warm Water
2 teaspoons Glue
3 teaspoons warm Water
3 drops green Food Color
Container 2:
1.Mix the ingredients for container 1 and container 2
separately.
2.Add a few teaspoons of the borax mixture from
container 1 to container 2.
3.Stir and watch as it forms slimy mucus!

Grow some mold!
1.Put a piece of bread, cheese, and a peeled
banana in plastic bags.
2.Sprinkle a little water on the food.
3.Write DO NOT EAT on the bag.
4.Leave a small opening in bag to let air in.
5.Check your food daily. What do you see?
Which food grew faster?
