Current trends/ views/ concern in Education

The public school system in the Philippines faces several significant challenges that hinder educational access and quality. These issues stem from historical, geographical, and socio-economic factors, which collectively impact the effectiveness of education in the country.

concern in Education Accessibility and Geographic Disparities Infrastructure and Resource Allocation Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic

Accessibility and Geographic Disparities Many regions, particularly in Mindanao, experience conflict and natural disasters, disrupting education access Remote areas often lack basic educational services, exacerbating poverty and limiting school participation

Infrastructure and Resource Allocation There is a notable disparity in school facilities, with northern provinces generally having better conditions compared to the southern regions, which suffer from neglect due to civil unrest and natural calamities Public expenditure on education remains insufficient, especially when compared to neighboring countries, affecting resource availability.

Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic The pandemic highlighted existing issues, such as inadequate technology for distance learning, poor internet access, and unpreparedness of both parents and teachers for new educational modalities .

Despite these challenges, there are ongoing efforts to improve the situation, emphasizing the need for targeted government interventions and community involvement. However, the persistent nature of these problems suggests that comprehensive reforms are essential for sustainable improvement.

The current trends in education Personalized learning Artificial intelligence Developing social and emotional learning Technology integration Automated assessments Bite-sized learning (microlearning) Blended learning Distance Learning Project-based learning ( pbl ) Augmented reality Facilitating learning versus teaching Gamification Genius Hour Mindfulness Mobile learning

Personalized learning Personalized learning is an educational approach that aims to customize learning for each student's strengths, needs, skills, and interests. Each student gets a learning plan that's based on what they know and how they learn best.

Developing social and emotional learning ( sel ) Broadly speaking, social and emotional learning (SEL) refers to the process through which individuals learn and apply a set of social, emotional, and related skills, attitudes, behaviors, and values that help direct students. This includes thoughts, feelings, and actions in ways that enable them to succeed in school.

Mindfulness Mindfulness is more than just a tool for managing stress; it's a way of cultivating a learning environment that encourages students to become more aware of their internal and external experiences, promoting a sense of calm and focus

Artificial intelligence Artificial intelligence (AI) is a set of technologies that enable computers to perform a variety of advanced functions, including the ability to see, understand and translate spoken and written language, analyze data, make recommendations, and more.

Augmented reality Augmented reality is an interactive experience that enhances the real world with computer-generated perceptual information. Using software, apps, and hardware such as AR glasses, augmented reality overlays digital content onto real-life environments and objects.

Multi Activity approach in P.E.

Multi Activity approach in P.E. The intent of the multiactivity model is to expose students to a variety of sports ( Himberg , Hutchinson, & Roussell , 2003). A teacher-centered approach, the multiactivity model involves sports taught in short units in essentially the same fashion each year. Much gameplay takes place, and competition is integrated.

Which is better in teaching PE? Learner centered or Teacher centered?

What do you think are the positive effect of P.E. to our students?

This curriculum is an easy way for a physical educator to take the easy way out and go through the curriculum easily This type of curriculum has dominated physical education, but "the multi-activity model is no longer the only curriculum available to physical educators." Some of the new models are the Game and Sport model, Tactical Games model (updated version of multi-activity), fitness and wellness, and more.

Who Benefits from this Model?

B enefits of this approach As a physical educator, you can utilize this model to put many different sports into your curriculum. You can also have a couple of "free days." But, there are many more negative aspects than positive.

What are the Negative Aspects? "Lack of depth" "Inability to engage all students" "Failure to offer a truly diverse array of activities" Does not accommodate to all students Students who are better athletes will benefit from this more than students who are not athletically inclined "Employing a multi-activity pedagogy is a 'one size fits all' approach, which makes assumptions that students all learn in the same way."

Physical education is the key to improve a child’s confidence, brain power and effect to long term health Physical education provides cognitive content and instruction designed to develop motor skills, knowledge, and behaviors for physical activity and physical fitness. Supporting schools to establish physical education daily can provide students with the ability and confidence to be physically active for a lifetime.

Physical activity can significantly support mental health and wellness in children and youth. It can help manage and prevent negative symptoms, promote positive emotions, and improve self-esteem. Physical education is the key to improve a child’s confidence, brain power and effect to long term health

Additionally, the release of neurotransmitters/ natural chemicals like serotonin and dopamine during physical activity may promote happiness. Differently able students may also benefit from long-term participation in physical activity. Physical education is the key to improve a child’s confidence, brain power and effect to long term health
