TRENDS A general direction in which something is developing or changing. Change or develop in a general direction.

ISSUES An important topic or problem for debate or discussion.

Trends are akin to the changes that take place and become vogue. Changes occur every where including professions.

Changes in professional practice requires a constant updating in knowledge, attitudes and skills. To follow a particular trend it is necessary that all professionals have consensus.

Trends in nursing largely depends on changing health needs of the people. The changes in the health care delivery system and scientific and technical advancements also severely affect the profession.

CURRENT TRENDS IN NURSING IN INDIA

REDUCTION IN DISTANCE – SPEEDY COMMUNICATION Mobiles, e-line, video conferences and changes in the communication technologies have reduced the distance of the clients & the health care service providers.

COMPUTERIZATION OF PATIENT CARE Computerized record keeping, easy reference of patients care, reporting, compilation of information, stock monitoring, auditing are some of the functions taken over by computers.

In the light of this context, in future nurses would be expected to design software for patient care using information and communication technologies.

QUALITY ASSURANCE IN NURSING Public know their rights. Human Rights commission, consumer Protection Acts and Press are constant pressures on the professionals to deliver their best.

Professionals cannot ignore or be careless in discharging their duties when it comes to lives and health. Nurses have to ensure the delivery of quality care.

DECENTRALIZED APPROACH TO CARE MANAGEMENT This makes nurses practitioners responsible and accountable for care of assigned patients. This approach is found appreciable and effective in terms of patients satisfaction, quality care & smooth functioning of the units.

CONTINUING NURSING EDUCATION With the changes in the health care delivery system, it has become imperative for nurses to keep abreast of the changes.

Seminars, conferences, training Programmes , Library Searches, research, Workshops have been organized by nursing institutions to cater to the nursing personnel. The credentialing System also favours CNE programmes .

EVIDENCE BASED PRACTICE Nurses today should have a scientific bent of mind and a dynamic approach to patient care.

Intensified researches and the application of the research findings in the clinical setting is yet another challenge.

ISSUES IN NURSING Issues are needs/problems/challenges, in a profession that needs to be addressed by it’s practicing members.
