NEEDS ANALYSIS

The needs analysis for the Bachelor of Fine Arts, major in Painting program was conducted to address the specific needs and demands of the target market, stakeholders, and the school itself.

Market Demand: The analysis revealed that there is a growing demand for visual artists, particularly those specializing in painting, in the local and international art markets. The school recognized the opportunity to meet this demand by offering a specialized program that focuses on developing the skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career in painting.

School Resources and Expertise: The needs analysis identified that the school has a strong pool of talented artists among its faculty and student body. The school recognized the need to leverage this expertise and create a program that harnesses the artistic potential within the institution.

By offering a major in Painting, the school aims to provide a platform for these artists to further develop their skills and pursue their passion.

Course Description

The Bachelor of Fine Arts program is composed of three major disciplines that are united by their shared focus on creatively expressing aesthetic concerns through visual-based media. These disciplines, namely Advertising Arts, Industrial Design, and Painting, offer students the opportunity to specialize in their chosen field. The program equips students with the fundamental knowledge, tools, and techniques needed to translate concepts into compelling artworks and products.

Within the College of Fine Arts and Design, the Painting major stands as a leading force in cultivating renowned visual artists in the industry. This program promotes a balance between theoretical understanding and practical application in the creation of art. It emphasizes the importance of thorough preparation and a deep exploration of the core essence of Fine Arts.

Students are exposed to a wide range of artistic disciplines, including illustration, sculpting, printmaking, photography, digital art, and, of course, painting. By fostering a strong foundation in art knowledge and honing implementation and rendering skills, the Painting major paves the way for students to excel in their artistic pursuits.

Course Objectives

 Develop a strong foundation in artistic skills: The Bachelor of Fine Arts program, majoring in Painting, aims to provide students with a solid foundation in artistic skills. Through hands-on studio work and practical exercises, students will develop proficiency in various mediums, techniques, and artistic processes. This includes mastering the use of color, composition, and form to effectively communicate artistic ideas.

 Cultivate creativity and artistic expression: The program seeks to foster students' creativity and encourage them to explore their unique artistic voice. Through a combination of theoretical studies and practical application, students will learn to think critically and conceptually, generating innovative ideas and approaches in their artwork. They will be encouraged to experiment with different styles and techniques to express their artistic vision.

 Gain a comprehensive understanding of art history and theory: The program emphasizes the importance of art history and theory in informing and enriching artistic practice. Students will study various art movements, styles, and influential artists throughout history, gaining insights into the evolution of art and its cultural significance. This knowledge will provide a contextual framework for students to develop their artistic concepts and engage in critical discourse.

 Develop professional skills and professionalism: The program aims to equip students with the necessary skills to succeed in the professional art world. Students will learn how to present their artwork professionally, develop a portfolio, and effectively communicate their artistic ideas. They will also gain an understanding of ethical considerations in the art industry and develop professionalism in their interactions with clients, galleries, and the public.
