Curriculum Vitae It is a tool that summarizes your skills, educational background, experiences, and other qualifications. This can be considered a sales tool in the sense that it helps you market your skills to a prospective employer.

Functions: It informs the employers of the skills that you can bring to their company. It shows how qualified you are for the job. It functions as a persuasive document which allows you to proceed to the interview.

Components: Contact Information Summary of Qualifications Objective Statement Employment History Education Skills Training Organizations Professional Licensure and Certifications Honors and Awards References and Signature

Components Contact Information Make sure your email address is professional. Increase the font size of your name.

Components Summary of Qualifications Use this when you have at least five (5) years of professional experience. Ex. Fifteen years of teaching experience in the tertiary level and with strong rapport with professional organizations and practitioners. Trained more than 1, 000 teachers across the country

Components Objective Statement Optional yet appropriate for recent graduates Includes job title, function, industry, and what you can offer to the company Ex. Seeking an associate editor position in a top publishing company such as C&E Publishing where my expertise in textbook editing will be employed

Components Employment History Begin with the most recent experience. Include the name and address of the employer, the inclusive dates (month and year), and brief job description Use present tense for current jobs and past tense for past jobs.

Components Education Start with the recent educational attainment. Include the name and address of the school, years attended or year of graduation, degree and specialization. You may include your GWA if it is at least 3.0. List academic honors, scholarships, and extracurricular activities.

Components Skills Be clear with your strengths and communicate them well.

Components Trainings Include only those that have a bearing on the job position you are applying for.

Components Organizations Include professional and civic affiliations. You may include religious and political orgs if you apply for a job that requires such affiliations.

Components Professional Licensure and Certifications Include the name of certification, rating (optional), date issued, and place of issuance.

Components Honors and Awards Never list achievements that have nothing to do with work.

Components References and Signature Preferably, this should not be included in the resumé . Simply state: “References available upon request.”
