4. Elements of data communication TRANSMITTER: The computer or device that is used for sending the data from one location to another is called transmitter. In electronic data communication, the computer is usually used as transmitter.

5. Elements of data communication: RECEIVER: The computer or device that receives the data is called receiver. It can also known as “sink”. The receiver can be a computer ,printer or a fax machine. MEDIUM: The path or link through which data is transferred from sender to receiver is called medium.

HALF-DUPLEX MODE: The communication between sender and receiver occurs in both directions in half duplex transmission, but only one at a time. FULL-DUPLEX MODE OR (DUPLEX MODE): D ata can be transmitted in both directions on a signal carrier at the same time .
