INTRODUCTION: We all know how plants and trees are so important to us. We all need oxygen and these plants gives us oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide. In this chapter we will learn about how plants prepare their food. About the seed and its structure. How plants germinate and grow. We will also learn how plants reproduce. How seeds dispersed. I have discussed these in a very simple way using activities which will help to learn the concept easily.
Learning Objectives: Student will learn how plants prepare their food. To know about Reproduction in plants -By seed -By different parts of plants. Students will learn about the Structure of seed and seed germination. To know various ways of seed Dispersal.
Teaching Methodology: Explanatory method Discussion cum lecture method. Questionnaire method Teaching Aids: Science Text book “My Living World” Class- V Audio- Visual Aid, Diagrams and charts White Board, White Board Marker
Stomata- Stomata are the tiny pores present on the leaf surface. It helps in exchange of Carbon dioxide and oxygen in leaf. Chlorophyll- Green pigments in leaves of plants . It is essential for the process of photosynthesis . Some plants are insectivorous. Eg . Pitcher plant, venus flytrap, butterworts etc HOW PLANTS PREPARE THEIR FOOD Photosynthesis is a process where plants use _________ from the sun and takes ___________ from the air and ________from the soil. It converts into ___________to feed the plant and _____________is given out in the air. water, light, oxygen, sugar, carbon dioxide
REPRODUCTION IN PLANTS: Reproduction through seeds. The baby plant starts growing from the seed when it gets appropriate amount of Air, Water, Soil, Temperature . Lets discuss structure of seed : Reproduction: The process by which living things produce more of its own kind. Hole that allows water to enter the seed: Microphyle
Seed Germination
ACTIVITY Take some seeds of gram or beans. Put them separately in 4 jars. Label jars as A,B,C & D. Keep them for 4-5 days under the conditions given below. JAR- A: Put seed on moist cotton at room temperature. JAR- B: Keep seed without water at room temperature. JAR-C: Put seed in that jar filled with water at room temperature. JAR-D: Put the seed in moist cotton in an ice box or freeze. After 4-5 days observe the seeds kept in jars. What do you observe? Which jar seed been germinated and why?
Reproduction through different parts of plant: Leaves, Roots , Underground stem, Stem cutting.
SEED DISPERSAL By Bursting/ Cracking By Wind By Birds & Animals By Water The process of transfer of seeds to different places is called Seed Dispersal
ACTIVITY on Seed Dispersal Write seed dispersal ways or agents for above WIND WATER ANIMALS/HUMAN CRACKING/ BURSTING Lotus Water Lily Lady finger
Learning Outcomes: Students will understand how plants prepare their food by photosynthesis process. Students will able to know the structure of seed and conditions required for seed germination. Students will able to understand how plants reproduce their own kind. Students will able to know seed dispersal, dispersal through different ways.
Assignments: Draw labelled diagram of the following: Photosynthesis, Structure of Seed, Stages of Seed Germination Write all the methods of seed dispersal.
