DAY 10G He that has an ear to hear… Pastor Mark Schwarzbauer, Ph.D.
This is my Bible. It is the incomparable, inerrant, authoritative Word of God. I am what it says I am. I can do what it says I can do. I have what it says I have. I choose to live as it calls me to live. I am open and ready to receive from God’s living Word.
TEXT Revelation 2:7, 11, 17, 29, 3:6, 13, 22.
Part One: He who has an ear to hear
He who has an ear to hear Jesus tells all the churches, “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” The first three are injected into the letters’ contents. The last four end with the statement.
He who has an ear to hear The statement echoes Jesus’ words in the Gospels, Matthew 11:15, 13:9, 43 Mark 4:9, 23 7:16.
He who has an ear to hear He who has an ear to hear refers to being in tune with the Holy Spirit.
Part Two: YOU!
Why do you think that hearing what the Holy Spirit says is so important? Text your answer to 920-256-3077. We’ll share your thoughts in a few minutes.
YOU All fourteen references of “he” and “him” are in the singular. “Let him hear” is in the aorist active imperative.
YOU The aorist describes an event completed with you, making it happen as an established fact. Active is you taking personal action. Imperative is essential!
Sharing your thoughts on why you think hearing what the Holy Spirit says is so important.
Part Three: What the Spirit Says to the Churches
What the Spirit Says… What the Spirit says. The Third person of the Holy Trinity. The one who dwells in us once we’ve given our lives to Christ.
What the Spirit Says… The one who gives gifts of the Holy Spirit to speak into our lives. To the churches- the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
What the Spirit Says… “Don’t quench the Spirit ,” I Thessalonians 5:19. As a church or as individuals.
Part Four: Be Intentional
Be Intentional The voice of God is seldom audible or via angels. Be intentional in taking time to listen. Develop sensitivity.
Sources of Revelation There are three sources of revelation: The human spirit, God’s Spirit, and the enemy’s spirit.
Sources of Revelation The human spirit, conscience, or inner voice must be scrutinized as it can reflect our condemnation, self-perspectives, inadequate teaching, or strong influences- good or bad.
Sources of Revelation God’s Spirit will ALWAYS line up with His Word. He doesn’t contradict Himself. The enemy’s spirit will test you with half-truths and distortions.
Be Discerning The Holy Spirit will NEVER speak a word that contradicts His written word. The Holy Spirit convicts, NOT condemns. The Holy Spirit edifies and builds.
Be Discerning “Test all things” I Thessalonians 5:21. “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” I John 4:1.
Be Discerning Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater! I Thessalonians 5:20. “ 19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good.”
Closing You are called as an individual to hear what the Holy Spirit is saying to the churches.
