Protection Training Service Mapping 20-21 October 2019, Kabul

Service Mapping Session Objectives: Understanding the importance of service mapping Understanding the service mapping process Ensuring service mapping is updated Follow-up

What is Service Mapping and Why is it Important? Mapping available service providers in different areas and their services Assessing the appropriateness of these actors as resources or referral pathways in our humanitarian response A groundwork for information sharing Improves effective and timely response to persons of concern, allows us to see needs and gaps, and advocate for needed services Allows us to identify capacity building support needed by service providers (such as information, training, authorization, cost-sharing) for integrated responses Empowers our field staff to respond to needs and risks through referrals

Protection Incident / Risk Identified Individual consents to referral Case Referred Service / Assistance Provided

Who is Responsible for Service Mapping? Every organization is responsible for their own service mapping Relevant clusters can also support cluster organizations with cluster-level and interagency level service mapping Sharing this information can help identify gaps for needed service providers and services

Who Should Lead/Implement Service Mapping? Service mapping is based on location Field staff conducts service mapping for their area Consolidated service mapping at Kabul level

What information is needed in service mapping? Name and Type of Service Provider Details of Services, Programs & Activities Provided Who Do They Serve? Existing or Potential Barriers to Inclusion Internal Notes: Suitable for referrals?

How often should service mapping be updated? Ongoing by staff (when staff discover that a service provider is no longer active, they should report back and update service mapping accordingly) Every month (checking whether service provider is still present and active) Every 3-6 months (field staff confirming whether service provider information is consistent with actual implementation) (Snr. Officer ensures) A service map that is not up to date is not useful
