SHRI K. L. SHASTRI NURSING COLLEGE RESEARCH PRESENTATION PRESENTED BY: Deepti Srivastava M. Sc. Nursing 2 nd year

PROBLEM STATEMENT EFFECTIVENESS OF HAND AND FOOT MASSAGE ON PAIN AMONG POST CAESAREAN MOTHERS.

OBJECTIVES To assess the pain among post caesarean mothers in experimental and control group. To evaluate the effectiveness of hand and foot massage on pain among post caesarean mothers in experimental group. To find out the association between pains with their selected demographic variables among post caesarean mothers in experimental and control group.

EFFECTIVENESS Effectiveness refers to the extent to which hand and foot massage technique reduces the pain among post caesarean as measured by numerical pain intensity scale.

HYPOTHESIS HYPOTHESIS IS A STATEMENT OF THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN TWO OR MORE VARIEBLES. H1. There will be a significant difference on pain among post caesarean mothers in experimental group before and after hand and foot massage at p≤0.05 level.

H2. There will be a significant difference in pos test score on pain among post caesarean mothers in experimental and control group at p≤0.05 level. H3. There will be a significant association between pain with their selected demographic variables among post caesarean mothers in experimental and control group at p≤ 0.05 level.

ASSUMPTION Assumption is statements that are taken for granted or, are considered true, even though they have not been scientifically tested. In this study researcher assumes that, The mothers those who have undergone caesarean section have pain. Massage who be effective in reduce the pain.

LITERATURE REVIEW The literature was reviewed and presented under the following heading: Literature related to post caesarean pain. Julia Gonçalves Zandomenico et.al (2022) Conducted a cross-sectional study on Postoperative pain management after cesarean delivery. The sample was 268 mothers submitted to cesarean section under spinal anesthesia. The result of study showd that the distribution of pain classification according to VAS scores in the first 24 hours post-cesarean we observed that 140 patients (52.2%) reported VAS of 0, and VAS pain classifications were distributed as follows: mild pain (29.5%), moderate pain (12.0%), and severe pain (2.6%). None of the patients reported VAS 1037.

Literature related to effectiveness of hand and foot massage on post caesarean pain. Wisdom Klutse Azanu et.al (2022) conducted a study on Assessment and determinants of acute post-caesarean section pain in a tertiary facility in Ghana. Pain scores of 400 randomly selected and consenting post-CS women at a tertiary facility in Ghana were assessed at 6–12 hours post-CS at rest and with movement and at 24–36 hours post-CS with movement using a validated visual analog scale (VAS). Results showed that at 6–12 hours post-CS (at rest), equal proportions of participants had adequate and inadequate pain control (50.1% vrs 49.9%). Over the same time period but with movement, pain control was deemed inadequate in 93% of respondents (369/396). Women who had one previous surgery [OR 0.47 95%CI 0.27, 0.82; p = 0.008] and those whose CS lasted longer than 45 mins [OR 0.39 95% CI 0.24, 0.62; p<0.001] had lower odds of reporting adequate pain control. Women prescribed 12-hourly and 8-hourly doses of pethidine had only 23.5% (12/51) and 10.3% (3/29) served as prescribed respectively. At 24–36 hours post CS, adequate pain control was reported by 85.3% (326/382) of participants38.

THEORIES, MODELS AND FRAMEWORKS The conceptual frame work of this study was delivered from GATE CONTROL THEORY OF PAIN “A neural or spinal gating mechanism occurs in the substantia gelatinosa of the dorsal horns of the spinal cord.”

RESEARCH APPROACHES AND DESIGNS RESEARCH APPROACH: QUANTITATIVE IMPLEMENTIVE AND EVALUATIVE APPROACHE RESEARCH DESIGN: The research design adopted for this study was QUASI EXPERIMENTAL PRE AND POST TEST CONTROL GROUP DESIGN.

POPULATION, SAMPLE AND SAMPLING POPULATION: Population may be classified into 2 types: Accessible population Target population SAMPLE: POSTCAESARIAN MOTHERS THOSE WHO MET INCLUSION CRITERIA SAMPLING TECHNIQUE: NON RANDOMIZED

TOOLS AND METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION TOOLS: The tool consists of two sections: Deals with sociodemographic Numerical METHODS OF DATA COLLECTION: The data was collected for a period of 6 weeks(10/05/2024 to 15/06/2024).

ANALYSIS OF DATA The data were planned to be analyzed in terms of the objectives of the study using DESCRIPTIVE and INFERENTIAL STATISTICS. Descriptive Statistics:- Frequency and percentage distribution was used to analysis the sociodemographic variables of Post caesarean mother. Mean and standard deviation was used for assessing the pre-test and post-test level of post caesarean mother. Inferential Statistics:- Paired t-test was used to examine the pre-test and post-test level of Post caesarean mother. CHI-SQUARE analysis was used to find out the association between levels of Post caesarean mother.
