Definition of conditional I f we are talking about grammar, of course, we will find the material of conditional sentence , before we start to learn it we have to know the meaning of conditional sentence first, Conditionals are sentences with two clauses – an ‘if clause and a main clause – that are closely related. One part shows a result and the other shows a condition on which the result depends . The certain verbs are often used in conditional sentences. , These verbs are called modal verbs. They are usually used with other verbs, not on their own, and they are used with other verbs to express ability, obligation, possibility, and so on. Must, Can, May, Will, Shall, Ought, Could, Might, would, Should
Types of conditional In English there are three types of conditional sentences , namely: 1 . probable Condition 2 . improbable Condition 3 . Impossible Condition
1. Probable Condition Nature: Open condition, what is said in the condition is possible. Time: This condition refers either to present or to future time. Structure : If + simple present tense + Subject + will + verb or Will + base verb + if + simple present tense e.g : If I see haris , I will call him or I will call him if I see haris in the second form there’s no comma Modal that is used in this type is can, shall, may e.g. You shall make the report if you face the problem in the first type we can also find the "Zero Conditional". This type function to give an explanation of an event that will definitely occurred if the conditions are met. Form: If + present simple, (then) + present simple e.g : If students study hard, they usually get good grades.
2. Improbable condition Improbable Condition is often called the "Present Unreal Conditonal " or "Type II". This modality is used to explain that a job or activity at this time may will be conducted if conditions are met. Nature : unreal (impossible) or improbable situations. Time: present; the TENSE is past, but we are talking about the present, now. Structure: If + simple past tense + Subject + would + verb or Subject + Would + base verb + if + past tense e.g : ) I would buy anything If I were you. Or if I were you, I would buy anuthing in fact I am not you, I cant buy anytihing e.g : If I married Tika , I would live happily. Or I would live happily if I married tika
3. Impossible condition Impossible Conditional or often referred to as "Past Unreal Conditional " or "Type III" states a supposition which is not likely to happen again because it happened already passed. This type usually consists of regret for what has happened in the past . Nature : unreal Time : Past (so we are talking about a situation that was not so in the past.) Structure : If + past perfect + Subject + would have + past participle e.g .
