DISASTER PREPAREDNESS – Pre-disaster actions and measures within the context of disaster risk reduction and management and are based on sound risk analysis as well as pre-disaster activities to avert or minimize loss of life and property. Sample activities: Construction of hazard resistant structures, Engineering works and protections (levees, dikes, wave barriers, etc.), Vaccination Planting of water resistant variety of crops, if la niña is expected or heat resistant crops if el niño is expected, Declogging of canals and waterways, Tree planting, reforestation, Enforcement of CLUP, building safety standards, and legislations. Cont….Stage 1 Planning/Organizing DCG TASKS : Conduct a yearly inventory of the following: Total no. of occupants Total no. of persons occupying each room Total no. of persons occupying each floor Total no. of persons occupying each building Identify persons with special needs Acquire the most recent building grounds layout or plan/map. Use this to identify open spaces and determine the total area of available space that can be utilized as “area of temporary refuge.” Determine how many persons can occupy this open space. (Is the space enough for the total number of persons?) SDP PLAN 2018

Cont…. Tasking Obtain a building layout/floor plan for each building that shows the rooms, corridors, staircases, and exit points. ( Is the width of the corridor wide enough to accommodate the flow of traffic during an emergency?) 4. Conduct building watching exercise and identify safe and unsafe spots inside the workplace. This is necessary for stressing the do’s and don’ts. SDP PLAN 2018

Cont….Stage 1 Planning/Organizing Evacuation Head – takes charge of final head count. a. Marshalls Per Floor – give go signal to traffic/crowd controllers. First Aid Head – provides first aid treatment and coordinates with the hospital. Fire Safety Head – instructs crew members of the necessary response. Communication Head – coordinated with the Overall Coordinator and crew heads in sending out the alarm. SDP PLAN 2018

Cont….Stage 1 Planning/Organizing Search & Rescue Head – takes charge of rescue and retrieval of count. a. Search – searches for dead bodies b. Rescue – rescues the injured c.
