There are various types of charts. Bar chart Pie chart Line chart Scatter chart etc 2

Use correct tenses when describing a chart. If the chart deals with facts in the present, use the Simple Present . If the facts are the past, then use the Simple Past . If there is a connection between the past and the present, use the Present Perfect 3

Phrases to describe charts The pie chart is about … The bar chart deals with … The line graph (clearly) shows … The slices of the pie chart compare the … The chart is divided into … parts. It highlights … … has the largest (number of) … … is as big as … … is twice as big as … more than … per cent … Only one third …. So we can say … 4

Three Steps to describe a chart Introduction Here you say what the diagram is about. Mind the title of it and do not forget to include the source. Message of the diagram Tell the audience about what is the message/the important thing of the diagram Conclusion At the end of explanation, make a conclusion of the chart 5

Example This pie chart is about Sales Quantity of each product’s flavor. From the chart, we can say that the flavor of mango reaches the highest sales quantity. The 2 nd highest sales is the strawberry flavor. The total of sales is 3130 units. So the mango flavor reaches about 20% of the sales. Followed by strawberry flavor at 18.5% and 62.5% for the rest. 6
