How will you differentiate Speed from velocity? 3
Cite examples that will show the speed and velocity of the moving objects. 4
What did you noticed on the GIFs I’ve shown to you in terms of speed and velocity?
Describing Motion (Acceleration)
Acceleration is a vector quantity. Depending on the reference point, a positive or negative acceleration indicates the direction of acceleration. A positive acceleration would also mean that the object changes its speed from a smaller value to a higher value such as a car starting to move from rest.
Acceleration A negative acceleration or deceleration would also mean that the object changes its speed from a higher value to a smaller value such as a moving car that is brought to a stop. Formula: SI unit:
10 Directions: Solve the following worded problem in acceleration. Practice Problem (example) A car starts from a stoplight and is traveling with a velocity of 10 m/sec east in 20 seconds. What is the acceleration of the car?
11 The Winner Takes it All (By pair) Solution Given: =10 m/s =0 m/s = 20 s Formula: The acceleration of the car is . Solution
12 Directions: Solve the following worded problem in acceleration. Practice Problem A ball rolls down a ramp for 15 seconds. If the initial velocity of the ball was 1 m/sec and the final velocity was 16 m/sec, what was the acceleration of the ball ?
13 Directions: Solve the following worded problem in acceleration. Practice Problem A meteoroid changed velocity from 1 km/s to 7 km/s in 2 seconds. What is the acceleration of the meteoroid?

30 Problem Solving Directions: Solve the following worded problem in acceleration. The space shuttle releases a space telescope into orbit around the earth. The telescope goes from being stationary to traveling at a speed of 1700 m/s in 17 seconds. What is the acceleration of the satellite?
31 A ball is rolled at a velocity of 72 m/sec. After 36 seconds, it comes to a stop. What is the acceleration of the ball? A dragster in a race accelerated from stop to 60 m/s by the time it reached the finish line. The dragster moved in a straight line and traveled from the starting line to the finish line in 10 sec. What was the acceleration of the dragster?
