SUB TOPIC Part 1 1 What is descriptive text A descriptive text is a kind of written or spoken text that provides detailed information about a particular person, place, animal, object, or event. It describes the features, characteristics, or qualities of the subject so that the readers or listeners can form a clear mental picture of it. The main purpose of a descriptive text is to describe something or someone in detail so that the audience can imagine the subject vividly. Descriptive texts are commonly used in travel brochures, biographies, personal diaries, nature articles, and fictional stories where clear imagery is important.

SUB TOPIC Part 2 2 Structure of descriptive text 1. Identification This part functions as an introduction to the topic being described. It clearly states the name, type, or general information about the subject (person, place, animal, object, or event). Example (person): My best friend is named Alia. She is my classmate and has been my friend since elementary school. 2. Description This part provides a detailed explanation of the subject’s specific features. It may describe physical appearance, personality traits, behavior, or other unique characteristics depending on the topic. Example (person): She has long black hair and bright eyes. Alia is very smart and always helps others. She loves reading books and is good at painting.

SUB TOPIC Part 3 3 Language features Descriptive texts use specific language elements to clearly and vividly describe the subject. These include: 1. Specific Nouns Words that refer to particular people, places, or things. Example: My cat Snowy, Mount Bromo, The Eiffel Tower 2. Adjectives Used to describe nouns and give more detail about appearance, qualities, or characteristics. Example: a tall building, a friendly teacher, a delicious meal 3. Simple Present Tense Descriptive text usually uses the simple present tense to state facts or describe something as it is. Example: She has long black hair. The park is beautiful in the morning. 4. Linking Verbs Verbs like is, are, has, have, looks, seems that connect the subject to its description. Example: He is kind., The car has four doors. 5. Sensory Details Words or phrases that appeal to the five senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Example: The flower smells sweet, The surface feels rough, The soup tastes spicy
