What are the Devices Devices in library classification as components used for forming or sharpening a facet in an analytico -synthetic classification scheme. Based on the characteristic used for this purpose, they are called chronological devices, geographical devices, etc. These devices are used by classification systems wherever helpful and possible and are applicable in all three planes the idea plane verbal plane a the notational plane .

Types

Chronological Device This devices used for epoch of origin (Date of origin), or birth, on the year of 1 st investigation or discovery etc. Examples :1. Dewey Decimal Classification: 2:51 M76 2. Godan by Premchand,autor born on 1880 his 13th works. : O152, 3M80 ,25 3. Colon Classification Scheme: 2:51N3

Geographical Device The Geographical devices (GD) consist in using the appropriate characteristic as country , state , district, continent etc. Examples: 1. Indian Law : Z44 2. Indian History : V44 3. Indian Philosophy : R44 4. Law of England : Z 561

Alphabetical Device The alphabetical Devices (AD) consist in using the first or the first two or the first Three etc. Examples: 1. Bashmati Rice Plant : J381 B 2. Shakespear’s Hemlet : O1112J64,H 3. Dushari Mango Plant : J3751D 4. Creta Car : D5133 CRE

Subject Device The subject devices consist in using the appropriate class (subject) for the of an isolate, or two main classes are given and it is idenoted by ()Circular brackets. Examples: 1. Mnemonic Device Means add to memory or easy to learn. Examples: God,world,Unity , one dimension, or line solid state used as mnemonic Digit 1 Digit 2: is used as mnemonic for two dimensions, plane, conics form structure etc. Digit 3 used as mnemonic for three dimensions, plane, conics form structure etc. Digit 4: used as mnemonic for heat, pathology, disease, transport, synthesis etc. dimensions, Digit5: used as mnemonic for energy , light, radiation, organic, liquid, water, foreign land pathology, de transport, synthesis, etc. dimensions, Digit 8: used as mnemonic for Travel, organization, fitness
