Evaluation Of Dictionaries The evaluation of dictionary is started immediately after evaluation of writing system. The oldest dictionary found in Akkadian empire around roughly in 2300 BCE in Abla(Modern Syria).Such Dictionary was bilingual (Sumerians -Akkadian) on Clay tablets in cuneiform scripts. After that an English Dictionary named "A Table Alphbetical" in Seventeenth century.

Continue…… In early Nineteenth(1806) century Noah Webster Published his first Dictionary in English language named "American dictionary of the English language" or "American spelling book"In twenty Century (1884) a comprehensive "Oxford English Dictionary" was published.

Definition Of Dictionary Document (physical or digital format) consists of words that which gives the meaning,definition,grammer and etymology of such words which listed in such document.

Uses Of Dictionaries To learn new words . To learn the origin of a word. To check the meaning of a word. To check the parts of speech of a word. To learn multiple meanings of a word . To learn to pronounce a word. To construct a sentence using the word. To build up the vocabulary

Types Of Dictionaries General Dictionary Specialized Dictionary Translational Dictionary Encyclopedia

General Dictionary General Dictionary contains the all most usable words of any language. Example;- Oxford English Dictionary

Specialized Dictionary Specialized Dictionary contains the List of words relates to Some special field. Like medical field dictionary,Engineering field Dictionary etc. Example;- The Modern Medical Dictionary

Translational Dictionary Translational dictionary contains the words and their meaning from one Language to another language. Example:- English to Urdu Dictionary

Encyclopedia Encyclopedia contain the Meaning and Etymology Of words in Descriptive form Example:- Environmental Encyclopedia

Format of Dictionary In present era Dictionary available in three format Physical,manual or book format dictionary. Electronic format Dictionary Online Dictionary

Physical or Book format Dictionary This type of Dictionary is in the form of Book or any manual document.Which printed and published in manual way. This dictionary may be kept within user in physical form.

Electronic Dictionary In Electronic dictionary data is in digital form and can be excess via; Mobile phones Tablet-Computers CD Rom DVD Room

Online Dictionary This dictionary contains wrods in digital formats like Electronic dictionary but it can be excess in the available of Internet vus; Computers Mobile phones

Definition of Thesaurus Thesaurus is the collection of words and their mentioning some time it contain the antonym also. It is resemble with Dictionary but actually it is different from dictionary on the basis of characteristics. Example;-

Difference between Dictionary and Thesaurus Dictionary Thesaurus It Contains the meaning,usage,antonym and entomology of the words. It Contains Similar meaning and some time Antonyms of the words. Dictionary arranged in Alphabetical order . Thesaurus arranged in Alphabetical and conceptual . Oxford Dictionary contains about 500,000 words The largest Thesaurus contains 920,000 words. Dictionary used by all field’s related people.(Students,Businessman,teachers etc) Mostly used by those people who want to express their ideas in multiple ways.
