Difference
Criteria Batch Mode Continuous mode
Definition It is a closed system where, sequenceof
one or more steps that should be
performed in a defined order for a specific
time. There is no interruption between the
process.
Itis open system, where
continuously feed is fed in and
drain out of the system.
Intermediate sampling and check
points are there.
Criteria to select If the feedproduces high fouling during the
process, then batch mode should be
preferred.
Less foulingnature of feed can be
processed in continuous mode
Running time Relativelyshort running time Relativelylong running time
Monitoring and controlRelativelyeasier to monitor and control the
process
Difficultto monitor and control the
process
Installation cost Requires less amount of installation costRequires high installation cost
Skilled manpower Small man powerrequirement High manpower requirement
Maintenance Low costof maintenance Highmaintenance cost
