Physiology of Gastric Acid Secretion

Indications of PPIs 1. Gastro esophageal reflux disease: ( GERD)  It is a chronic symptom of mucosal damage caused by stomach acid coming up from the stomach  into the  esophagus tube . 2. Heart burn: It is a painful burning feeling in the chest or throat . It happens when stomach acid backs up into esophagus tube that carries food from mouth to stomach. 3. Zollinger -Ellison syndrome Zollinger -Ellison syndrome is a complex condition in which one or more tumors form in your pancreas or the upper part of your small intestine (duodenum). 4. NSIDs induced ulcer

Indications of PPIs 5. Gastric Ulcer Peptic ulcers are open sores that develop on the inside lining of your esophagus, stomach and the upper portion of your small intestine . The most common symptom of a peptic ulcer is abdominal pain.
