Digital Storytelling Assignment “Around The Camp Fire of Politics” Subject: Language Arts / 9-12 Grade

Assignment Description Students are to produce collaborative presentation of a campaign style debate in a political election TASK Students will be required to think critically about the process on formulate a written speech and presenting it a political style campaign speech in a mock election, individually answer the question, “If I was President ”. Students are to reflect on current social issues, trade and domestic policies and issues involving National Security Students will have access to specific media and resources to help provide guidance and helpful tips on how to produce a finish product in a Digital Storytelling Format

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to: Explain the politics and political processes in formulating a political speech Interpret and analyze various position of issues that would foster the most support in your election

As a result of this lesson, students will be able to: Sharpen and refine essay composition skills to maximize the effectiveness of your speech List arguments for both sides of various issues in the U.S and abroad.

What’s required? Speech Writing Write a formal speech discussing how you as President of the United States would address current social, domestic and trade issues and their affect on Americans. Guidelines: 10 mins in length Must be original

What’s required? Digital Presentation of the Speech Student must create a digital Storytelling presentation of their speech Guidelines: Must include 3 different forms of media

What’s required? Debate Preparation Students will debate their political position on various issues against the other 2 party members. Guideline: Debate s tyle rules

Assignment Conclusion Election Process The attending student audience will cast votes based on content of speech, storytelling presentation and debate performance.
