MULTIMODAL TEXTS It refers to text that comprises more than one mode of communication to convey information. It could be found in many forms Print Digital Live Examples: podcast, comics, and music video

Different multimodal resources Written Meaning Spoken Meaning Visual Meaning Audio Meaning Spatial Meaning Gestural Meaning

Written Meaning It conveyed through written language via handwritten, the printed pages, and the screen.

Spoken (oral) meaning Conveyed through written language via live or recorded speech and can be monologic or dialogic. Composing oral meaning includes choices around emotion, emphasis, fluency, speed, volume, tempo, pitch, rhythm, pronunciation, intonation, and dialect.

Visual Meaning Conveyed through choices of visual resources and includes both still image and moving images Visual resources include: framing, vectors, symbols, perspective, gaze, point of view, colour , texture, line, shape, casting, saliency, distance, angles, form, power, involvement/detachment, contrast, lighting, naturalistic/non-naturalistic, camera movement, and subject movement.

Audio Meaning Conveyed through sound, including choice of music representing different cultures and ambient sounds, noises, alerts, silence, natural/unnatural sounds, and use of volume, beat, tempo, pitch, and rhythm.

Spatial Meaning Conveyed through design of spaces, using choices of spatial resources including; scale, proximity, boundaries, direction, layout, and organization of objects in the space

Gesture Meaning Conveyed through choices of body movement; facial expression, eye movement and gaze demeanor, gait, dance, acting, action sequences .

TYPES OF MULTIMODAL TEXTS PAPER-BASED MULTIMODAL TEXTS MULTIMODAL TEXTS DIGITAL MULTIMODAL TEXTS It includes picture books, text books, graphic novels, comics, and posters. Examples: Dance, performance, and oral storytelling It conveys meaning through combinations of various modes such as gestural, spatial, audio, and oral language. It includes film, animation, slide shows, e-posters, digital stories, podcasts, and web pages that may include hyperlinks to external pronunciation guides or translation

Activity 4: I am on my MODE Group 1: Written & Spoken Expression (Spoken Poetry) You will create a short-spoken poetry piece that highlights your written and verbal skills. Your poem can be on any topic of your choice, allowing you to express your creativity and emotions effectively through words Group 2: Spatial & Visual Expression (Paper Craft Creation) You will be provided with a set of materials and asked to create a visual craft that demonstrates your spatial awareness and artistic skill.
